if I'm making my own exhaust system which muffler will round it out for the most power? Sound is a taste thing, but I was wondering if, given all other parts are already chosen, will the muffler make much of a difference? I know I had read somewhere on here the magnaflow full exhaust was proven to give the most hp boost.. but is that due to the whole cat back system or did the muffler play a big role?

Yeah, magnaflows. I would say go with mufflers and an x-pipe, your choice to delete resonators or not, but I will when I put mine magnaflows on.

It's because it's an engineered system so that's why it makes a big difference. Not just because of the mufflers. If you are making your own system then try some borla mufflers or dynamax bullet mufflers for a less restrictive muffler. They will be loud because they are more of a straight through design.

Because I wasn't enamored with magnaflows sound.. it was the right volume but a little too muscley for my taste.. id like a more european performance sound.. but if its ..moar p0werz!!1! Then I could cope. Looking for most power, and medium volume. I already have my x pipe and I'm deleting the resonators.

Borla was not that loud on my ls,magnaflow is probably louder than borla.I did feel power gain even on my gen2 with the borlas.

Hm. Really? I don't want it super noisy, a lot of people said magnaflow was too quiet, I thought it was just about the right volume. I got a luxury sport sedan not a camaro ya know. But I believe we've meandered away from topic.. so as long as its a high flow aftermarket there shouldn't be a major hp difference since the rest of the system is remaining the same, right?

Just dont get Flowmasters or Spintechs I believe they were.. Both are horrible in the act of "making horsepower" There are many comparisons online, just google muffler dyno results or something similar.

I find my Magnaflow system to be just right, sound-wise. And I simply took it out of the box and installed it. But I'm sure I could see from one end to the other, looking through the mufflers.

When it comes to making power, a poor muffler can cut things down, but it won't 'make' power. Once it's non-restrictive it's done all there is.

I have bassani mufflers, aero turbine res., and cats off of eBay and I feel a noticeable amount of power increase.. It will now give a small tire squeal when accelerating..

Not too loud but I think it's just the right tone.. I had it with the mufflers deleted and that was pretty loud.. Sounded like it should have been on my ranger.. IMO..

On your Borla exhaust now mine did you kept your resonator ?

because I planned to remove them and to put a X-pipe.

No, deleted the resonators. I did not have an x-pipe either. Yeah, remove them and put an x-pipe in there.
