hi again,

i recently started noticing a sound from my front end. i have an 04 LS V8 sport. the only way to describe the sound is 'clicking' or 'creaking'. it sounds like metal contacting metal. it's not super loud or 'grinding'. i comes from- i think- the front right side. i only hear it when i'm coasting at 5mph (like in bumper to bumper traffic- that's when i first noticed it), at the start of acceleration (for a couple seconds) and when i change gears from park to drive, or to reverse. i don't know a lot about cars, but i think it happens when there is 'torque' applied to the drive train or suspension- as in the above conditions. i took it to two mechanics and they both said everything is fine and they don't know what the cause is.

interestingly, i recently got two new front tires, and they did the alignment. the noise went away. but the steering wheel was off center so i took it back and they fixed that- the noise is back!

i have read several threads prior to posting this, including a google search. if there is already a post, please direct me and i'm sorry for posting something again.

any ideas?

i had two name brand mechanic shops look at the car- goodyear and firestone- so not the dealer. is this something they can miss? if so, how can i test it to know which it is?

I would go with sway bar bushing 1st chepest fix and it seems to most likely be the issue for a lot of ppl

Search : sway bar bushing you'll see all the threads opened on that topic you can DIY( do it yourself ) Searching is the best way to see and read other ppls simular problems and see what steps they took to pin point the issue

thanks. i looked at a few threads. most of them in that search talk about things i don't understand, or problems i'm not having. i'll look a little more when i have time. i may end up taking it to the stealer...

He has an '04. Bushings aren't replaceable as they are bonded to the stabilizer bar. IF it is the bushing, the whole stabilizer bar will need replacement.

Oh i didn't know. I have an 03 will that fall under the same class ?

Yup. When I went to replace the bushings on our '00 I had to buy the bar with the bonded bushings as Ford quit making the bushings. They found they would eventually fail again sometime down the road.
