Alert: Stupid question below!

Does the rear end have a drain plug?

I looked under there and couldn't seem to find one.... it might be covered in gunk though.

No, unfortunately, stock, they do not. You have to take off the rear cover.

never mind - looks like the fluid needs to be sucked out or the cover dropped.

Edit: Thanks DLF! I did a quick search over at TCCOA and found out, but you beat me to it.

in my 97 i sucked it out...used a siphen thing i got at pepboys,,,its just 2 clear plastic hoses with a pump in the middle.it took awhile but its all fresh now.

now that i think of it, it might cost just as much just to take the cover off and get a new gasket vs buying the pump...

I actually have a pump already... 2 of them. I might give that a shot. I have the smell of gear oil!

how much does a pump or gasket cost and new fluid. I got quoted 45 bucks for someone else to do it, the guys who installed my trak lok and 4.10's - driveline performance shop. Mind as well let them eyeball and tell me to stop doing john force burn outs again or pressure me for a real diff! yarf!

Black RTV isn't expensive (unless you get that The Right Stuff canned RTV.)

i was unaware you could use that..i dont know di ck about ford 8.8's or rear ends in general. but i can take out the diff fluid and replace it..lol.
