Trans shop just called. They said I need a new flywheel or else my clutch will burn out again... but they're having trouble finding one. They called a stealership, and the parts department there didn't even know ls's had manual trannies. So... anybody know where to get one and what this is gonna cost me?

There is another recent thread - asking the same question - and to my knowledge the only option was Slavage Yards...

OMGWTFBBQ?!?!

So, shop just called with a price of (guess) $735.15 (omgrufkingsrius, that's more than the entire clutch replacement for which I originally brought it in), 4 day shipping from Ohio. I was like o rly? No way dude. I can find it. Came back and saw that link, for $545.85, and was all, "WIN." Called to follow up on it; "what? There's a Lincoln with a manual transmission? No way. What is this April fool's day? Good joke." (What he really said was "no, I didn't know they had that option"; humor me.) He looks it up and says, with an Office Space voice, "uh, yeah... I'm gonna have to tell you that Ford doesn't make them anymore. They're obsolete. Let me try--no, that didn't work. How bout--no, that didn't work either. Hold on---(on hold for 8 minutes)--- yeah, I called a guy who I know, and he can't do it, but here's somebody who might have it. Go ahead and call them."

Kthxbye--

Next guy-"well, let me look it up here. Nope, can't help ya."
Me-"do you--
Him--No."
...OK.

So I called back the shop here, "go ahead and bend me over."
OK, well there was a shipping option to get it here in 2 days instead of 4.
Oh, word? How much extra?
Two hundred and--
WHAT THE :q:q:q:q IS WRONG WITH YOU LADY? HELL NO I'M NOT PAYING THAT.
She said "yeah that's what I figured."

So... I might have a running Lincoln on Friday. Then again, I might just shoot myself in the face for getting swindled by the bastards that sold it to me. Or maybe I'll sell it... I'll probably just suck it up and deal with it. Cuz it'll be a while before it needs another flywheel, right? Haha...

Right?

Can anybody get, from a Haynes / chiltons / factory service manual, all the info pertaining to the flywheel, including an image if possible?

what's wrong with your flywheel? is it not possible to get it "turned" machined?
you said you took it to a dealer right? Maybe dealers don't even give you an option idk...you should see if you can pick it up and see if it can be machined

No I took it to a transmission specialist shop. You know, the kinda place that is only slightly shady as opposed to straight hustlers lol. They pulled the "if the flywheel needs resurfaced, we'll do it" aka "we're gonna charge you an extra $70". They said that that's the problem; the last person who resurfaced it did a terrible job, and that was probably the reason the clutch went out.

I'll be pulling my transmission later this week or early next week. I'm planning on replacing the flywheel with a single mass style. After I get it pulled I will begin the search of finding the flywheel. My guess is that a mazda 6 flywheel will work, that's what I'm going to try first. I'll be starting a thread on my progress once I get started.

Damn. Shop already ordered the OE one, and it should be installed Friday. By the time you get done it'll be too late for me. It'd still be great info for anybody replacing or wanting to upgrade theirs.

By the way, just curious; only ~2300 ls's came with 5-speed. How many are active here?

yeah. now I just need an alignment, fluids changed, a clockspring, d-side front + p side rear window regulators, new hinge for console, new tires, bushings, a new shift boot, a better tint job, a new plastic piece for the trunk lip, and a better alarm.

I'm sure there's more. give it a week.

Also, I need to put in my sound system. The speakers in it now are garbage... and do i trust the stock cd player, throw in my excelon, or get a double-din?

I have an Excelon double din that I love. but one of the operator arms is broke, so I've had the same CD in there for about a year. Good thing I have my custom ipod dock and full connectivity so I can even play the videos from it through the head unit. Just wish the cord I used also charged the ipod.
