I need to remove the door handles on the car. Do they pop out in one piece. There are also some spots on the car around the hinges I'm scared to putty. Are these areas supposed to curved on the mark? Anyone ever blocked a mark VIII before?

I'm also removing the air compressor. It works. Anyone need one? Pref. in Houston. Don't know the going price. What's a fair price for a LVC member?

After sanding down the epoxy I put on the 2k with the new tip. This was the result and it layed fairly flat.

ok i just installed chrome handles on my 93 last week.. a bit of a PITA but not terrible...
you will need a 12 mm gear wrench, and a tough thumb, the pics look like its a 2nd gen so thatll make it alot easier as the 1st gens have a long screw bar on the handle and the 2nd weight bar is forged.. anyway
the hardest part will be snapping the bar out of its perch from the key mechanism, theres a slightly easy way to do this
first disconnect the wires for the key pad and lighted key hole ( if applicable), next locate the lever on the locking mechanism about center way up door, its a little yellow tipped lever, the bar going to the handle is attached to it.. stick your arm inside the door above the windows horizontal track and reach around on the outter skin side and pop the retaining panel on the clip, pop the rod out of the clip, note that the threads on the bottom of the rod are not threads to be screwed, they are just for grip in that clip and the possitioning of the handle to flush it with the body. next you can remove the 12mm nut from center bottom of handle ( driver side only) this is for the key pad, drop the key pad down into the door, remove the other 2 nuts that secure the handle
from outside the door ( have key with you ) pull out a tad from the key hole end of the handle housing, there is a steel clip on the backside, remove that the key hole will come loose, the white clip holds the rod to the lock silinoid, poush downward on the white clip to remove that from they key hole, slightly rotate the housing upward and wiggle towards rear of car, youll see that the weigh rod flows up in a seperate hole from the housing
if there is a nut on the rod going to the handle, it ( the nut and weight rod) MUST be removed from the inner side of the door before removing the handle housing, needle nose vise grips and a 12mm gear wrench will prove to be friendly for this procedure
ill load up a few pics

the tab toward the front of the car above the handle retracting spring is where the weigh bar was once bolted, it bolts to the outside of the handle and points towards front of car, as the chrome handles forged one mimics

you can see the white clip here that holds the rod to the lock silinoid ( above)

on the handle you can see where the weight bar used to be attached, the chrome is forged on and shorter in length

what i came to find out, is that the Mark 8 and the Town Car have different handles, if you are replacing one for the other, the housing must be used with the proper housings handle, the hinge forges are slightly different and if you cross the 2 ( Mark handle in a TC housing or v-v , it will not lay flush with the body in the housing) the housing can be swapped between vehicles as long as the respective handle is also used
you can slighty see what im talking about in the last picture, the handle nearest the key hole sticks out a tad in the housing, and when you pull up on it, itll STICK in the up possition and the springs wont retract it into the housing

i will do a more step by step if needed when i replace the passenger side with the proper housing sometime after this weekend

Keep it going. it pretty easy DIY removing the door handle. U going to paint the crome around the window. Mite as well while ur at it cut or roll the rear fender just incase u plan on putting wide tires in back.

You need to remove the 1\4 glass, back glass, door moudlings, window trim, and rear bumper before painting. Otherwise in a year when your clear starts to chip you'll have to redo the whole thing again. You can get away with using pull back tape on the windshield. You'll thank me later.

I heard to do this you need to remove the entire window. Anyone have pics or a walkthrough. I'll do it if it's not a serious PITA.

Not planning on it and don't know how to do it. The back right was rusted through and I had to fiberglass the inside to reinforce bondo being put in and it has a dent outward right in the middle of the wheel well. I'd hammer it out but it causes all the bondo to break up and don't want to go through it all again.

I don't need new handles just the plastic pieces to go behind the handles.

That bolded bit is done from inside the car, correct?

The screws holding the bumper on just spin in place. Suspecting they are rusted and some type of clip broke. any thoughts?

Wow. Lots pics and too much to read. But looks good.

Just an FYI. The door handle plastic gaskets are still available from Ford last I checked. If your going to go through all this, might be work putting nice new ones in.
