I've read the owners manual and searched the forums...

Where's the best place to put a jack under an LS and once it's on the jack where do you put the jack stands?

I've caved in what I thought was the jack point trying to get it high enough to get a jack stand under it... Thankfully it didn't damage the floor pan.

He doesnt know where to put the jack. He probably shouldn't be under it then.

Not true. I doubted the location of the jack stand too. There are slots about3-4 long where the stands go but that began to bend slighty as I started to lift it up on the jack. Maybe it wasn't sitting right case it didn't bend the second time and after
 
I jack at the points the top arrows on that diagram show. My jack stands aren't the kind with a slot so I use the "pad" areas under the car just behind the front wheels. They have caved in a bit, but I really don't care too much about those.

Man there is so much in those sentences for a Jr. High kid to laugh at. :D
 
Yeah the jack points are in the manual but unless you use the factory scissor jack, most likely you will bend the jack points. I tried to make some grooved wooden blocks to fit and cushion the jack areas, but the blocks broke after a few uses. Guess I'll have to make some out of metal, or resort to the factory jack, groan.

I have always used my hydraulic floor jack on all my cars since the 70s. This is one of the few cars that is a real beach to jack up without messing up the sheetmetal. My wifes Villager van has similar jack points but they are sturdier, and there are other good suspension points I can reach with my jack.

There are no other good spots on the LS to use my floor jack since the car is so low, so you have to use the jack points to start. Once you get the car up high enough then you can use the 4 jack points in the suspension area. I recall a warning not to jack up the aluminum components of the suspension since they can be brittle.

I just changed oil and rotated tires on mine. I did tweak the jack points a bit but you have to be under the car to see it. I was most concerned that it would tweak the side skirts out a little if I bent that lip. That doesn't seem to be an issue.

I wasn't about to crawl under under it to get at the oil plug without a jack stand holding the car up. I prefer to avoid being in tomorrow's obituaries. Especially over something as stupid as not using a jack stand.

Ditto. That is one thing I tend to be really anal about. Once I put a vehicle up in the air it isn't coming down until I'm ready. I think it comes from watching faces of death when I was in JR High.
