Well after my fun adventure with installing a inner tie rod I noticed that I really should start looking into rebuilding my front end. I have in the past when I rebuilt the front ends used urethane bushing and would like to again. My only problem is finding a kit for the Mark. Do any of you know of a kit or am I going to have to just put one together myself? Or can urethane be done for the Mark?
 
For the front end I would just get moog parts... for the rear you can get the parts from Supercoupe, or the member DFL makes Delrin bushings...
 
MOOG all the way! And do it all at once, that way it feels like a new car. Everything sway bar bushings, end links, ball joints, outer [and inner lol] tie rods, and all the bushings. It would be awesome, trust me. I did this to my 1990 Towncar, 365,000 miles when I sold it runnin strong.
 
I've tried Poly in the front, and went back to the stock parts.

For rear bushings, I'm afraid that I'm the only game in town. You can get Poly bushings for the knuckles, but even they compress and allow too much movement of the knuckles.

I just had to do some research on this, it does appear you're correct. You're probably the only game in town. How much do you need for a set of Delrin IRS bushings? I have a T-56 planned and would like to make the IRS as rigid as possible in the aspect of preventing wheel hop. Anything I can replace to help this is a plus.

FWIW, I originally developed these because a 5-Spd Thunderbird SC has massive wheelhop with the stock components. These solved that problem, as well as improving my 60' times at the track. You can read some reviews HERE.

Sounds good. Unfortunately, hopefully you'll still be up to this when I can afford them as I don't even have the trans in my car yet.

The price was surprising. I have the means to make these, but being since it's not my equipment and thinking of the time it would take puts them into better perspective, you seem to have them thought out well and I think a purchase wouldn't be regretted.

I would like a set. Hopefully you'll still have them avail when I'm able.

Yeah, they're not cheap, but....

It took quite a while to get all of the dimensions just right.

The lathe and tooling weren't cheap.

The materials and Mil-Spec hardcoating aren't inexpensive either.

And, it takes a couple of days to make a full set.

But, I'm very pleased with my results, and so far, I've received nothing but compliments from the 15 or so customers that have bought them. :cool:

That's a cute lil lathe you have.

You seem pretty resourceful, so I'm gonna ask, where's the best place to get those mandrel elbows?

And how much clearance are you losing with that brace, any? (I mean is the car unable to clear anything it can't clear anyways) Asking because I plan to keep my 2.75+/-" of ground clearance.

Also, this squeak in the bushings, is it getting quieter as they get used? How squeaky is it? Loud pitch? Anything that's going to be surprisingly loud I mean..

I've bought most of my exhaust components HERE.

I haven't had a clearance issue, yet. I bought the brace used, and the marks are from the last owner, I just haven't gotten around to having it powdercoated again, yet.

I actually haven't yet heard a noise from either of my cars yet. I only mentioned it once, because I used to get some noise from the Maximum Motorsports Delrin bushings in my Cobra. But they aren't lubricated, and mine are. I'll be replacing the MM Delrin bushings in my Cobra with some of my own design, and I expect the noise to go away then.
 
That's a really nice setup. Curious about the cats, your muffler placement, and the mandrel. I'll have to go check to see if you contributed to the latest exhaust thread. Do you have any sound clips?

The last exhaust thread I contributed to here was this one.

No sounds clips, sorry, but it rumbles a bit at idle, and sounds great when I get on it.

The members might, and a couple of them have found me, but I doubt the company would, as they're selling Poly knuckle bushings. Which, BTW, tend to compress rather quickly, and allow the knuckles to move quite a bit fore and aft.

Is it crisp, like, a refined sound? Or slightly like a ... truck sound? Lol. I have true dual 2.5 no X, no H, and pro flows. I hate it, it sounds like a truck. I would have to hear yours to tell if it's what I'm after. I've been curious how close we can get to the shorter length exhaust note that the mustang guys are getting with the axle-back setup.

Sort of a deep rumble, which I actually like better than the full Bassani setup I have on my Cobra, which is a little too high pitched for my taste.

I just bought my daughter a new vid cam w/sound, if it ever stops snowing here, maybe I'll figure out a way to get some clips and post them on my web page.
 
Really? Matter of preference, sounds like. I like the high crisp tone that rolls off the top of the rumble, but I'm seeing my lincoln as less of a luxury car than most prob. If you would be able to get around to an exhaust clip that would be great!

Another side note, if I ever get around to everything I would like to do, I'm looking at building my own K member similar to the one AJE use to offer. I would possibly like some Delrin bushings there, also. Might be unusually stiff, but I would be able to fab my own setup completely vs incorporating something that allows bushings already on the market. But that is down the road a ways yet. Maybe you would be interested at the time, I'll check then if you haven't already informed me that it wouldn't interest you.

The only place in the front suspension that you could use Delrin would be the inner UCA and LCA bushings. The strut rod bushings need to be somewhat flexible to do what they're designed to do, which is why the MOOG "problem solvers" are just short of junk. If I thought Delrin would do any good, trust me, they'd already be on my car.

FWIW, I've tried Poly in the front end of my SC, and went back to the stock parts. The Poly transmitted too much noise, made the ride rough, didn't last very long, and didn't improve the handling much.

And, I race all of my cars, so I'm definately performance oriented. :D

Too bad you're not closer, I've got three cars that need detailing BAD! That's something I don't have the patience for.

Man coming over here from LOD is a m e SSE d up experience for the eyes.

I was reading you say something similar to this over there. Yeah, I haven't researched what I'd be using for suspension parts, vaguely assumed I'd like to build all my own, but might find some aftermarket pieces for some type of kit car or just use stock pieces from the mark. Thanks for the honest input.
