Anyone else tired of driving in this $#%t. (ice)

I stopped by an ATM before work to get some cash. The exit of this ATM drive has a hard right just after the machine. I started to go and the back end of the car slips to the left on this crap, hits the curb and puts a nice sized gouge in the rim lip and small tear in the side wall. Just pisses me off because these rims are only a couple months old and I'm trying to fix this car up and this happens.

I'd post a pic of the rim but the pic didn't turn out too good.

Get an LSD. I'm driving the LS today. snow tires + lsd = win!

It sounds like he power slid into the curb, I'd think an LSD would make it worse? Snow tires are a must though.

Some sound advice, take your rims off during the winter. No matter how careful you try to be, the likely hood of you is there. Had a friend slide into a curb in his Nissan Titan and take out a chunk of his 24" rim. Ouch!

Man, I would if I had some other rims.

The rims I had before were some nasty chrome pieces of crap. If I still had them, I would have put them on, but for fun I listed them on Craiglist for $200 and had a guy give me $180, so I ran with the cash. :p

Damn good thing I don't have to deal with this problem! Nothing but sunny warm weather for the LS to ride & shine in :) :D

Same here in Hburg. I would hate to have to drive in the snow. You guys are brave. It's in the 60's here during the day and that's chilly to me.

If and when I do go to the snow, it is not in the LS. We use the Wife's AWD Mountaineer with the 4.6. That's the way to drive in the snow.

For sure!

My wife has the '99 explorer AWD 5.0 that see drives. I feel safer having her in that.

Here in Washington (Eastside Redmond-Bellevue-Kirkland) we have had NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO snow, not even a freckle. It's been a lil rainy but today it's bright, clear, and sunny. HAHA maybe you guys should just move here

Naw I think I will stay put. I am 1 hour from New Orleans, a couple hours away from the sunny beaches in Destin, and less than 2 hours away from Death Valley in Baton Rouge. Sorry but I will take that over seattle any day.

From my long ago childhood in Renton...

...man's never found
a place that's as rainy 'n' foggy
as the city on 'ol Puget Sound !

The LS (hell, any car) needs proper winter tires for that type of weather - but a RWD V8, definitely. Get a cheap set of wheels and put some winter tires on them. Our LS has done very well even in snow storms with the Blizzak WS-60's.

Of course I miss the snow (we hardly had any this year) as I love driving my S60R in the snow (AWD + Turbo)!

ouch that sucks, I'm in Ottawa and same deal, no matter what you do with her it has to be slow like old people! or :q:q:q:q happens.... I got perelli snow sports on mine with sand bags and still no dice, she slips and shoves her hips all over the place... BTW Leafs Suck... LOL

I'm actually from Seattle.

My friend who I work with has a red '06 S60R (Auto). That is a NICE car and quick. We actually got into a race on the highway about two weeks ago after work. We both got on it at about 60 mph and I actually stayed just a little bit ahead of him until about.......ahem..... 125 and then he would blow past me.

Yeah they are fast - was he in Sport or Advanced mode? The LS has good low end torque (V8) but once the turbo in the SR spins up it goes like stink especially on the top end.

Only had one decent snowfall this year but didn't get snow pics - figured next time but that was all the way back in early/mid December!

I couldn't tell you. Knowing him it probably wasn't in an advanced mode or anything, in fact the guy isn't even really a car enthusiast.:p He picked the car up in July to replace his Grand Am. I don't believe he really even knew what he bought to be honest other than it looked cool.

We lined up three times on the highway and yeah, at around 120 or so he would blow me away and not by just a little bit, he pulled hard. Now at a stoplight, the LS IMO doesn't have a chance against it. I think the only thing going for me was we were already moving obviously.

I have a 2000 Mazda B4000 for the winter, 4Lo = sideways at 45mph in the white stuff and a huge shyt eating grin on my face. Thats all closed course stuff tho, I dont do that during the day or anything.. :shifty:

The car does pull hard especially in advanced mode which tightens up the suspension so the rear does not squat on launches/or roll on corners, firms up the brakes, and re-maps the engine/transmission program for more aggressive driving, and with AWD = :D

Can only use it on good roads though because it rides rough like Eibach Sportlines, etc when you use that mode. You should go for a ride in it with Advanced turned on (or better yet, drive it!).

Most original purchasers had no idea about the car as they just wanted the most expensive/top of line Volvo on the lot and didn't really care about the specs. It's usually the 2nd+ owners that specifically seek out the car because the don't want an M3 (2-dr) or S4 (even bigger repair bills than the R). Given the poor resale value of Volvos it means a good deal for a car enthusiast.
