Tranny dipstick?

Where is the dipstick tube on a gen 1 Ls? I have looked everywhere and I can not find the thing anywhere!!!!

There is no transmission dipstick on either gen LS.

Omg! That is so stupid. I think that I am Fjust going to say the heck with it and put an add for the car fs before I have tranny work done to another car. I havr never had a car that worked right again after I had any kind of tranny work done to it

Member here flush their transmission all the time with no problems. Lincoln LS is not the only car with no transmission dip stick, some of the newer car, BMW, don't even have an oil dipstick.

The transmission on my 04 is back to 100% correct (like new) operation since the solenoid replacement a year or two ago.

Even the new mustangs (05 and up) don't have a dipstick. There is a mod they have done to add one.

The problem is that the iffy lube type places continue to ruin transmissions because they don't know how to read the stick, and they don't know what fluid to put in. There really should be a need for a dip stick anyway. Transmissions don't consume fluid. If there's a leak, you need to fix it, not just keep adding fluid. If you do the correct flushes at the correct times there shouldn't be any fluid problems.

I agree, I had a place that actually didn't know how to fill the trans correctly, I ran for 6 months with a gallon extra... lesson learned, now for the tranny service I just go to the dealer. For normal trans flush and whatnot they are pretty reasonable as far as price anyway.

i felt like a dumb ass when i was looking for my dipstick in my car, any one have a ball park guess on how much the dealer charge's on a tranny fluid change? i got about 58,000 on my car and never had it done

$138 the last time I had it done.

No difference, but I wasn't having any problems either. If you are having any issues, then a fluid change is very unlikely to resolve them. You have the fluid changed to prevent future issues, not to solve existing ones.

yea i dont have any issue's but i wanna flush it so i dont have any future issues. considering i never had a tranny flush and im at 58k

On my '98 LSC, the original owner (I'm the second owner) had the trans fluid and filter changed every 25K. He gave me the receipts to prove it. That may be a bit on the anal side, but at 150K the original trans is still doing great. J-mod is next for me!

Gotta say, I like the "iffy lube" tag. FWIW,the real problem, with regards to the LS not having a transmission dipstick, was space--they had no room for a dipstick.
