PART- hydrolic fan pump $500

PART- hydrolic fan $570
Labor For Fan $375

PART- thermostat housing $310
Labor For Themostat Housing $518

Coolant $30

THE TOTAL B4 TAX IS 2733.00

OMG I FEEL THEY ARE TRYING TO JERK ME I CANT SPEND 3000 TO FIX IT CAN I BUY AND EXTENDED WARRENTY SOME WHERE THAT COVERS IN FULL OR SOMETHING CAUZ MY WARRANTY EXPIRED IN AUGUST 2008 I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO MY CAR IS A 2001 LINCOLN LS WITH 67,000 MILES ON IT AND I JUST FINISHED PAYING IT OFF LAST MONTH

I had it done

the fan and pump is a $2000 repair, just had mine replaced. The thermostat housing is BS, the dealer sells the entire unit hoses and all for $200, its a DIY quick job to replace. Never heard of the housing going bad????? Usually you just replace the thermostat $20. Maybe they want to replace the entire hose and thermostat unit.

Now about the fan and fan pump....someone just put in an electric fan for under $100 dollars to replace the hydraulic fan system. Next time I will do that. Do a search, all the data is there on how to do it.

does any one know any one in nyc where i can get it done... and where can i buy the parts from ... for a good price

Overheating

Everytime I read a post in "The Forum" like yours, I thank my Dad for the scars on my knuckles, for teaching me that "sneaky Pete" is not merely the name of the local used car salesman, and for the technical info and good will of LVC members who make their skill and experience available at this site.

Adubbbbbbz, I feel your pain.

they can def. crack if you over torque the fill cap,

when my tstat blew out a few months back, it shot out and busted a hole in the housing, had to goto the dealership for the parts...$30 for tstat...$130.00 for the housing.....luckily, I get the employee price since I have alot of friends that work for them:D , my cost....$80.00 for both:p

Overheating

The shops in my area either will not allow the owner to provide parts or will double the labor rate if working with owner provided parts.

If faced with a $2,000 to $3000 repair bill, you probably should trade the LS for an '03 or newer.

I READ AS THE YEAR GOT HIGH THEY GOT WORST I REALLY DONT WANT TO SELL THIS CAR I JUST FINISH PAYING IT OFF... AND I DONT WANNA GET A NEW CAR AND HAVE SAME ASS PROBLEMS

Shop around for a break on the parts. There are places that can beat your dealer quote, even other Ford dealers involved in the forums. Tousley Ford in the Great lakes area, (Michigan I think) gives good discounts through the Ford Focus Forum, for any Ford cars. Then get a reputable repair shop to do the work instead of the dealer and save significant bucks on those labor rates as well.

To order from them just call 1-800-328-9552 and ask for Steve or use one of the methods below.

Now accepting online orders here http://www.tousleyfordparts.com

You can also find us here http://forums.focaljet.com/tousley-ford/

I got the cheapest ever LSE bumper kit from Steve as well as loads of parts for my SVT Focus.

u gotta get that caps lock key fixed dude

+1. No need to yell.

AND I DONT WANNA GET A NEW CAR AND HAVE SAME ASS PROBLEMS

I thought you were having cooling problems, not ass problems. You are going to go to different experts for each of those issues :p

Now, what I wonder is are they throwing too many parts at it. Is it common for both the hydralic fan pump and motor to go at the same time? Or are they just replacing both because they are money hungry?

T stat housing labor - 500 bucks? WTF? It ain't that hard on the gen 1 V8. AT least I don't think it is. I've never removed the whole thing. Do you have to pull the radiator or something to access the bottom of the housing?

couldnt find the other parts just yet but its worth a try. probably can get a decent mechanic to do the work for cheaper.

thanks for every ones helps im still trying to make it work ive been looking online like crazy for the parts and getting a mechanic to fix it ... now check this out a mechanic of mine found this problem i have...

Get the whole thing. If the rest of it hasn't cracked yet, it will soon (probably while you are working on it.)

You can now count me as one of the ones with cracked plastic coolant parts. I had three different parts with cracks at the same time.

Ditto that. My 04 LSV8 had 2 major plastic cooling parts that cracked and needed to be replaced and one more part that probably should have been but I was lazy and didn't want to drive 20 miles again to the dealer. That par so far hasn't leaked since the crack was not in a pressure bearing area. But, Now, a few months later, my degass/overflow bottle is leaking. Boy Ford UK uses pos plastic for cooling parts.

So yeah if one part is bad, you may need to inspect and or replace others.

Not sure, but I would guess from drawings you have the V6. Parts are VERY different between V6 and gen a V8 and gen 2 V8, so be sure you have the parts for your engine and year.

So far, this car is the worst I have owned for cheesy plastic parts that break much too soon. And at least on the V8 you can only buy Ford parts and they often come as complete assemblies. I have read some of the advertising Ford dealers on this website have good prices on factory parts.

If your coolant system is leaking you won't be able to bleed it. If you can't bleed it, your car will over heat. Also if it was leaking and you were just adding water, (which has a lower boiling point) that could also be contributing to your cooling problems.

Keep in mind I don't know if you noticed any problems with your fan and not going with the dealership's assement is a gamble. I would replace the leaky housing first.
I'm just guessing here, but I think they could be just throwing parts at the problem.

thanks for all the responses i ended up purchasing the housing

in reference to the fan can u elaborate more on that ... i want to know is there a way to know i need to change my hydrolic fan and pump ... they are telling me to but i wanna know if they bull :q:q:q:qting me .. lol....

overheating

My '02 LS V-8 equipped with the hydraulic fan system needed replacement of only the control solenoid (actuator) on the pump. The part is around $100.

Clues that may mean a bad control solenoid are that the hydraulic fan runs but does not switch to high speed when the AC compressor is on. I believe AC system discharge pressure is one of the fan control parameters. Of course, sensors and the control module itself can revent fan high speed. But, my overheating which occurred only at idle on VERY hot days with AC on was caused by the control solenoid failure.
