Im in the market and my two top choices are the Lincoln LS(8) and the Mark VIII.

I was wondering if anyone could point out some advantages to the LS over the Mark VIII, i am looking for a 98 MK8 or 2003+ LS.

Was also wondering what carrier/axle was used for the IRS in the LS? Is it the 8.8 like the cobras, is it 28 or 31 spline?

Since my budget is below 10 grand, and this will be my daily driver, i am leaning towards the Mark VIII since their prices have tended to be a little lower, but i have read nothing but good things about the LS and its chassis/motor.

For a daily driver I like the LS better. Gas mileage is about the same the LS should be a little quicker stock and heated and cooled seats. The LS does not have an 8.8 rear. Do a search to know about swapping gears/carriers. Plan on dealing with COP issues and probably the DCCV on the LS.

The Mark VIII is a nice car too though and if you plan doing modding the car in the future the 4.6 4V/8.8 has more of an aftermarket.

yep, LS has an 8.0 rear...only mod you can do to it is a trac loc, otherwise its pumpkin swaping with custom brackets.

the LS has its issues, coils, wheel bearings, ball joints, and heater controls, but I would'nt trade it for the world (figure of speech)

"Plan on dealing with COP issues and probably the DCCV on the LS."

care to explain in short?

Yea, the almost 1/3 of the price mark viii is tempting, im a mustang person so its a little more familiar. Just really love the look and idea of the LS.

Am i wrong thinking the LS is a better performer then the Mark VIII,

reason i asked about the irs:
i have a spare 31 spline 8.8 cobra track loc (designed for irs), was wondering where i would buy 31 spline axles for the LS. And as far as internal engine parts (pistons) is there any aftermarket for those?

The COP's are Coil On Plugs. The DCCV Is the Dual Climate Control Valve.
It is what controls the temperature differences from the AC vents between driver and passenger side. This has a tendency to fail along with the coils.

I personally love the LS over the MK8, though it is a good car as well with it's own set of failures.

:W

Apparently you AREN'T THINKING if your'e gonna gat an LS. lol mwahahahah MARKMAN STRIKES AGAIN!

is there a fix for the COP's? or is it just bug that isnt fixable?

same with the heat?

I like both the cars, but i am looking for a good traveling car, something fun on the freeways and comfy as hell. This is replacing my foxbody mustang as a daily driver, so no matter what i worlds ahead in comfort.

The 4.6 does lend itself to be modded more though, which is both good and bad.

Are those issues big deals to fix?

IDK, really torn between the two. One's much easier to build in the future.

Exterior, I say the ls is the better looker of the two.Its a great looking car. The mark has a weird body shape but it is a nice car. A plus for the mark over the ls I guess would be if you're planning on hitting the track a lot or trying some serious perfromance mods. I wouldn't trade an ls for a beef'd up mark though even if you could get 550+ rwhp on them or whatever the number is. The coils are not a big deal if you take care of them on time and dont run it with them bad, like I did, So if you get on the coils on time its nothing big at all. The ls is a fun car to drive and own. If I could go back to the dealership when I was looking for my first car, I would still get the ls. I chose the LS over a G35 coupe. They are faster and sportier than an ls but the ls won me over.

Ponyboy, its a decision you gonna have to make. Drive both see what you like.

I say get the LS.
