Hi guys,
I am new to this forum, just bought LS v6. Found this forum, its very helpful, as far as i have no previous knowledge on this car.

Short story. Car been picked up from a car yard, with a main problem of the steering rack leakage. Also been noticed continious cooling fan spining.

As the steering rack been fixed and back on, wheel become tough and hardly turning. However it gets a little better when you drive. Any ideas on that?

The fan, hydrauvlic fan. Car is under '03 year. Wires and relays been checked. It looks like the pump solenoid isnt reacting. It just always open. My question - can it be fixed? Replaced? Or it commits fan pump replacing?

Will appreciate any help on that. :)

Little update. Prediction seems right. Solenoid been pulled out. Its dead.
So the fan always running.

Here's pic. Where can i get that solenoid, if I can. How much it costs?

Thanks in advance.

Try AutoZone or a parts store, but as for the steering, maybe your pump is shot?

Check the fluid, maybe flush it if you can, and see if that doesnt help, otherwise if you have the money, replace the pump.

Hi, thanks for reply.
No its not the pump, because fan is fully working. It just wont stop.

The question is where can i get the solenoid.... on the pic...

Misunderstood, you mean steering pump. It could be pump, but the steering was fine, before the rack was fixed. So its pretty weird..

Thanks.

You can get it from max.

Ty. Sent him pm.

Hydraulic fan

The hydraulic fan on my '02 LS runs continuously but changes to high speed when the AC compressor starts or the engine needs more cooling.
The pump solenoid is a dealer item, around $100.

Hi Jin

I show the 03 to have an electric fan. Can I get the complete vin number.
max

Going by your vin number that is a 2000 v-6 ls. The hyd cooling fan pump actuator is in stock and is a xw4z-3783-ca listing at 113.07 and cost you 84.80 plus shipping. The pump AND actuator is a yw4z-8c628-a listing for 514.82 and cost you 401.56 (includes that 100.00 actuator). From what I read by the time you remove the pump, repl the act then reinstall it and see the pump is bad and have to redu the job, it is better to replace the pump assy. That actuator is not returnable once it is installed...so you would have another 85.00 in the repair

or just mock up an electric fan....i think people have done it and not just talked about it. but im not 100% sure

Keep in mind that he is in Isreal (according to his information). Shipping will likely be more expensive than the part. JINTONIC I would take the part numbers from Maxx and see if there is anyone in Isreal with those parts. And compare those prices to Maxx's considering the shipping expense.

Priority USPS shipping to Israel for the actuator would be about 20.00 and on the pump assy be about 60.00 and would take 6-10 days, faster would cost more of course.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help, I am back for advice about tough steering problem.

Here's short story.
Car been picked up from a car yard, with a main problem of the steering rack leakage.

As the steering rack been fixed and back on, wheel become tough and hardly turning. However it gets a little better when you drive.

Fluid been checked, flushed, checked for air inside.

Couple things
- Whining sound presence, when wheel is turned.
- Another thing noticed is, when you parked and trying to turn the wheel its hard, but when you push the gas pedal and rpm go up, its easier

Any ideas on that guys? For me it seems like power steering pump is gone.
Could it be something else?

Thanks.

You have to vacuum bleed the power steering pump after opening the system (such as to replace the rack). Was this done?
There is a filter screen in the bottom of the reservoir. Check it and make sure it is not obstructed.
There is electronic control of the power assist level, has that been verified to be working correctly?

Here's some more information on the subject.

I forgot to add that after the service manual was printed, Ford now recommends Mercon V for the power steering.

joegr, thanks for reply

How do I check it?

Reservoir been checked, even changed for another, to check if there's any difference.

Is there another way of bleeding system, without vacuum pump?

Fluid is Mercon, regualar.

Any ideas guys?

"How do I check it?"
That's in the first link that I posted.

"Is there another way of bleeding system, without vacuum pump?"
No correct way that I know of.

"Fluid is Mercon, regualar."
I believe that is still okay/approved. It's just that Mercon V is allowed now as well. (Mercon V should last longer...)

Hi there,
Still no clue on cause. :(

Pump been taken out and cleaned, back on. No change.
Same whining and no power steering.

Looks like I have to find way of pressure testing.

For those who interested in solution. :)

Tough steering problem solved by fixing power steering pump.

Fan problem by changing solenoid.

But dont worry, there are enough problems left. :D

Many thanks for advices here. :hump:
