Has anyone tried mounting the factory DVD/nav player vertically, or does anyone know if this would be a good or bad idea...

What's your purpose here.
Are you going to drive down the road with your head sideways?
If you want to see what the nav would look like vertical borrow a standalone GPS and duct tape it over your dash where the radio is.
The radio would probably work but I don't know about the cd or dvd.
You'de have to have some major fabrication skills to do this to an acceptable
finish.
Bad idea :( :I

The OP can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he was talking about the player that's mounted in the trunk that has the nav disk in it.

Although your reply was pretty darn funny!

It should be okay to remount the nav DVD player in the trunk in a vertical position, but I don't know of anyone who has tried this.

I am curious as to why you want to do this as well

Ya the joke's on me :p
Somehow I was thinking of my Kenwood.
Forgot it was mounted in the trunk under the cover.
What will you gain by putting it sideways?

lol ya its in the trunk. the reason is because i need the clearence under the rear deck lid and the player is the way so i was hopeing to fix it in a vertical position but i still want the use of nav.

It should be easy enough to try it. I think that the disc is held in tightly (it's not in a tray), so that should be okay. All of the gyros are in the head unit, so that shouldn't be a problem either.

If you test it and it works, make sure you try ejecting and inserting the disc before making the change permanent.

ya its only held on by two bolts that are attached to the tray. ya i need the clearence for a box and im the process of dynomating(pain in the ass btw). i just wasnt sure if the disk was held in tight enough

Hah, I thought he meant actually taking his headunit and mouting it vertically like in the center console or something LMAO

Ya no im not that dumb... i ended up mounting the nav vertically as well as the factory amp for the two shelf subs

No scatching? everything working good with it like that?

ya it turned out to work fine you just need to recalibrate your headunit once you are done.
