Trans service? Shudder on downshift

Occasionally the trans in my '03 LS8 shudders on downshift. I think I'm going to adjust the bands and change the trans fluid (including the torque converter). Does anyone have any experience with the shudder or DIY service?

are you sure your going to adjust "the bands and change the trans fluid (including the torque converter)"

it probally just your coils need to be replaced

All coils are new. 2 have about 10,000 miles. The rest have 6,000 miles. I doubt it's the a coil issue.

I've read about some shudder issues with the 5r55 trans. The general fix is change the fluid, adjust the bands, and reflash the ECM. I know my ECM is up to date. That leaves the other two options.

There's a dual plug in the bottom of the trans pan and one in the torque converter. There's a fill plug on the right rear of the case. The center plug of the dual plug has a stand pipe to check the pan's fluid level, as there is no dipstick.

I'll drain the pan, pull the pan, change the screen, reinstall the pan, drain the converter, put 5-6 quarts into the pan, run it for 10-15 seconds, put another 4-5 quarts in the pan, run it, pull the center plug, and keep adding fluid until it runs out the center pan plug at operating temperature.

The bands are the square heads hanging out the driver's side of the trans. My understanding is that to adjust: Loosen the jamb nuts, torque the stud to 10 ft*lb, back it off exactly 2 turns, tighten the jamb nut.

Nah. I was just hoping someone in the LS forum had cured a similar issue, and could share some tips. I guess I should take some pictures and notes and post them up here.
