Oh, so I'm not alone.
On my 06, it worked with no noise (like my 04) until this one hot summer day. I could see where the grease melted and dripped down on the floor. After that it would make an awful noise every time the wheel retracted. I tried to put some grease on it, but it didn't help at all. It was (at the time) under warranty, so I took it to the dealer. They greased it, and all was well for a week. After that, the noise was back. I took it back again with the same results. I tried all sorts of stuff on it that didn't work, or didn't work for long. I finally tried some sort of gel lube that comes in a spray can. So far (about two months) it has stayed quiet.
I'm not good at describing this, but I'll try. look under the dash, between the door and the steering wheel. There is a motor assembly that has a square shaped rod that rotates, and moves in or out as it is rotating. That is where the lube needs to go.
