im getting rid of my rockford 10" and am thinking about using the alpine 4 ch amp thats sitting in the garage....

Anyone have pics of the factory rear deck 6x9 setup?

I have the base system, 4 door speakers...
oh and the motor is coming today :)
so the LS should be done mid next week
 
it just two speakers with an amp mounted between them and the harnesses that plug them in
 
actually some of the early 1st gen came with a molded black plastic enclosure that housed the subs and the amp and the whole unit just bolted to the bottom of the deck lid
 
so most any 6x9s should bolt right up?

i already have RCAs run to the trunk and power/ground/remote setup from the sub i have in there now./..

do they bolt to the bottom of the rear deck or top?

will i have to remove the carpet by the third brake light?
 
They bolt down from the top, and even if you have one set of RCA's run from the Radio you are going to have to run another set for the 4ch amp. You can split the RCA's you already have there but they you will lose you fading. Hopefully you have an after market radio already in the car because if not you are going to lose some sound quality going through a line out put converter. It isn't something you would have really noticed with the bass, but you might notice in your highs.
 
If he has an aftermarket head unit he might be fine with the same rca's. Since he was running only one 10'' sub and it was a rockford, then I doubt the head unit has the ability to switch from low to high pass on its on. How many pre outs are there on your head unit? and if you bridge the amp you can get away with one set of RCA's, but you will get a lot of power going to just one set of speakers though. And just one set of speakers amplified will sound weird.

if you dont have the factorys in there, and the speakers you are putting in there have a lip around the edge (like most pioneers do) to protect the surround you can just bolt(you may have to make new screw holes) them in from the bottom (since you wont have to remove the factory speakers), however if the speakers you are putting in do not have a protective lip them you can not bottom mount them

if you have to top mount them, you will need to remove the bottom of the rear seat to reveal the bolts for the sides of the back seats by releasing the latch under each side of the bottom of the seat

remove the sides of the back seat be removing the bolt at the bottom and releasing the latches at the top

remove the "C" pillars by prying inward

remove the third brake light

remove the trim around inside edges of the hole to the trunk

lift and pull to remove the rear deck lid

reverse to re-install

I have a Dual HD radio in there now with 1 preout (L/R RCA)

it is an old school alpine amp and i only have the connector for 2 ch's anyway...
(It uses obsolete Molex housings that i can't find in stock anywhere, and i work for an electronics distributor lol)
i was thinking about getting more of a 6x9 woofer with a low pass cutoff at 150hz [the alpine amp has a x-over built in with low pass at 150hz] since the base system has no bass, this may add some.

i travel alot for work with the promotion so the sub has to go...

on that note... anyone know of some good 6x9 "subs"
 
try www.woofersetc.com - I think they have some 6x9 subs in there. I believe there's an older thread where a regular poster here was looking at putting them in his LS (might have been LeaSR77).

is this the same way to remove the lid on a 03 ls? just put some decent 6 x 9s in there but focus on a good front stage, your going to want what you hear to sound good, not ur passengers.
 
You should try yo go lower than 150hz, The amp should go lower than 150 anyways, If i'm not mistaking those older Alpines went down to 50hz. But I have found the best sound from amps generally come from around 80hz. But then again I have never set up 6x9's to run just bass out of them. You might wanna look into getting high pass blockers also.

pretty much the exact same, except for there is no third brake light, and all 2nd gens had the bolt in subs (only a few early 1st gens had the sub enclosure that dropped down)


also if you unbolt the seat belts at the bottom (so that you can completely remove the C pillar's and get them out of the way) the bolt goes straight through the car into the wheelwell and usually rust up and will break off, i reccomend not removing those bolts
 
the low pass cutoff is at 150ish hz.

so it blocks >150hz...

but... i just found out that our sister company Farnell (europe) carries Blaupunkt speakers...

With my discount being cost +10% it might be a good idea to look into some 3 ways and just run it a full 4 ch's and look harder for the connector...

i may get 1" tweets and run speaker line from the amp to the center console and run the tweeters in the factory location, basically running the setup like the factory alpine unit.

also... if anyone has a un:q:q:q:qed with factory intake tube for sell... please let me know...

ohh and the damn engine still isn't in yet... grrrr
 
This wasn't answered above but do I have to cut my carpet or is it ok to leave them under in the rear deck lid? I'm buying some type R's for my 2000.

well with the earily version, if your car used the "bolt in sub box" then it is not as easy as just bolting them in, there will be carpet and a layer of cardboard that not much sound will pass through also the holes are not the right size, you will probably have to cut the holes in the rear decklid and mount the speakers in there and use long enough bolt to catch into the metal (theres a pretty big gap 1.5"-2") or get a rear deck lid that has the factory speaker grills in it, either wan its not as good of an option as the ls's that dont use the box and just have the subs bolted to the rear deck
