I've been having an issue with my transmission. I currently have 125k on my car and I bought it at 87K. I have never changed the tranny fluid or have ever added any. The problem has been this: it sometimes does not go into D4 when switched or when I put it in D4 it will stay in D5 and then a couple minutes later eventually go to D4 where I put it. Also, lately it has intermittent hard shifts or like it isn't shifting on time, almost delayed. Is it time to switch some selonoids? Or do a tranny flush and filter change? What are your suggestions?

Start with a proper fluid exchange at a Lincoln dealer (not a quick lube type place). There is a pickup screen (can be cleaned, no need to replace), and no filter unless one was added externally due to previous transmission failure.
After that, you will most likely find that you need some solenoids replaced.

ok, so no new filter but I need to drop the pan to clean the filter and replace the selonoids then correct? I would like to do it all at once. What is everything I will need? A trans pan gasket? Seloniods, how many? .... I have replaced selonoids in an 02 cadillac seville I used to own so I am assuming its the same idea. Is this correct?

The LS has a solenoid pack; ~$200. Start with the least expensive thing; flush the fluid.

where are the solenoids located? arnt they inside the tranny under the pan? If I am doing a fluid exchange, I might as well do the selonoids correct? They will go out some day?

No. The fluid is usually flushed using the lines that go to the trans cooler.
