Gen1 and Gen 2? Your best bet is reading this forum top to bottom. It is full of virtually every problem, solution, and all the modifications you can have for these cars. You will gain a better understanding of your car's operation and find things less confusing on your first issue if you do the reading rather than a simple list.

If you wanted the #1 issue. I would have to say from my reading here the #1 issue for all the LS trim/option levels is the V8 model valve cover gaskets that leak oil into the spark plug wells and kill plugs and coils. This issue exists in both the Gen1 and Gen2.

If I were to toss in a second for good measure, I'd have to say it would be the DCCV (dual coolant control valve for the dual zone climate control). From what I've gathered it happens more frequently on Gen2 models. The redesigned unit for Gen2 lowered the cost, but also the quality.

I was about to start typing until I realized I'd be here all night listing the problems this car comes with.

buy something german

Here's one thing to keep in mind too. He's looking at a 01 LS. Now realize that the car is eight years old so depending on how it's been driven, taken care of, driving habits of the previous owner or owner's will determine how long the car will last before he starts having problem with it. Also anything mechanically is going to start having problems some time down the line with age so expect that with buying a car that age.

That's the exact year and model I've owned since 2002 myself, and it's had the same notorious and re-occurring problems that a many others experience. My LS has less then 60k miles (when the odometer actually displays it) and it's been problem ridden since day 1, hence why it sat for a few years.

to be honest, it's a clunker. there's no denying ford did a bad job on the LS, and even worse with owning up to it. But at the end of the day I still love the damn thing, came close to selling it a few times but am glad I didn't.

Although if I could go back to that day at the dealership in 2002 I would have run out the door.

My entire wheel snapped off the car stopping at a light, and I've heard of this happening to others as well.

check your wheel studs, they are :q:q:q:q.

everything, stupid woodgrain especially, but seriously these cars are exceptionally easy to work on and parts can be bought cheap online or even cheaper at car-parts.com for good used stuff. NEVER go to a dealer for work

This is why you do not go to the dealer.

Thermostat
Rotors
valve cover gaskets
coil packs
over heating........$1500

Feeling of pride when I smoked a beemer driven by two adolecent douche bags...........priceless.

DCCV? You call that a issue?

Seriously, after the coils its a tie between the hub bearings and the tie rod. Then you have the de-gas bottle.

After that its all minor stuff until you get over 75K miles but there is plenty of it to go around till then like the window regulator which 9 out of 10 times is just a clip falling out of place and fogging headlights.

i've got a 01 that i got back in 05.

what i've replaced so far
-window regulator for both front windows
-door lock latch for front passenger
- replaced plugs and coils
-new sway bar bushings
- had to buy new lug nuts

I still need to replace my door lock actuator for my left rear door. I have to figure out my starting problem. It starts fine 99% of the time. My rear right shock is leaking.

Tell your friend to get a 06
