Finally I got the unit installed after waiting on an exchange due to a shop not knowing what they was doing and messed up the first unit. Man I tell you this was a task. I replaced my RCA cables while I was at it. I got everything hooked up except my review camera because I couldn't find the instructions and was kind of confuse on how it went The install shop had already ran the wires and placed on the plates but I couldn't figure out where the two out of the three wires up front went. When I get the steering wheel control interface (got to get a new one because the a*% holes at the install shop hooked that up wrong and one day it started smoking). I worked on this thing for about eight hours or so. Talking about tired. Now my ac and heat is not blowing for some reason so now I got to check and see what's wrong with that. Here's some pics that I took. Enjoy

Mind PM'ing me some instructions on how to take that stereo part out? I gotta fix my CD changer...

Looks good. Stereo is next on my list. Looks like you mounted the amp to the seat back? I wasn't sure where to mount it, looks like thats the most likely place.

Considering the stock unit has speed sensitive volume control... Does that mean there is a speed sensor wire on the factory harness?

Since you aren't getting any answers, I'll throw my guess in.

I know for a fact that on gen II LS's the VSS signal does not go to the head unit. It gets the needed speed information from the CAN bus. I assume that the gen I is the same other than using Ford's non-CAN data bus.

The gen IIs do have a VSS signal available inside the car. It can be found at one of the connectors by the rear deck. It's there because the optional rear-park-assist needs it. If this wasn't an option on gen I, then they probably don't have it there. On gen I or II, you should be able to pick up the VSS signal at the ABS controller under the hood.

I'm just going to throw this one out there.

I placed my gps ant under the piece of plastic on the dash board up next to the windshield (the panel that has the defroster slots and the PATS light on it)
Great reception and you can't see it, its a win win. Sometimes the tint effects the reception and my tint is very dark

+1 ^^^^^^.
I just popped the plastic vent up right in the middle and stuck the antenna on the metal support underneath it. Couldn't ask for an easier or better spot to put it.

I have an on 01 and couldn't find the VSS wire for it so I didn't even hook up that option. One thing you want to do though, is bypass the unit before you put it all in. Basically you just take the mute wire from it's current location on the harness and put it in another slot and then ground it and the parking brake wire. That will let you have access to the navi functions and watch dvds while the car is in motion. Go to www.avic411.com and search and you'll find a write up with pics on how to do it.

I'm not sure if the newer AVICs need to be bypassed like that. I think it needs to be hacked by going into the unit itself. not sure though.

Dude I love those wheels!!! What kind are they? Let me know if you ever want to sell them because I might be interested.

Thanks man. They are called Gianna Blitz. I've had them for a little over a year now. Go to their website at www.giannawheels.com and check out their selection. They just dropped a new style in which I like too. I see you are from Hattiesburg, I'm from McComb. Quite sure you've heard of it. I was just home back in April for a funeral and I drove my LS down and even came to the burg because I have family over there. The next time I'm home, I'll have to send you a message and maybe we can link up and cruise the strips.

I dont know what it is, but these nav units just dont look right... the space around it is too blah...

Maybe that light metallic finish on it would be nice, like the gen 2's. But the different blacks really dont mix with me...

Bet that it sounds like a plan. Yes I know where McComb is and it is not that far away from me. you should make plans to come to Cruising The Coast the first week of October. We can cruise the beach.
