I made this post so as not to hijack the OP of "rough idle", so here goes....Mine does this too...on a cold start it will idle about 1200 for 20 seconds then settle around 800-900. The idle is mostly smooth with the popcorn popping sound in the airbox. No CEL, replaced cop boots and vc gaskets. Only thing left with mine is my fuel pressure is at 32 at idle with vacuum connected, 28 without vacuum connected to FPR. New (within 10k miles) fuel filter. Have a 225 lph pump on the way, hoping that will clear it up. My plugs are about 30k old, autolite platnums, and the insulators are just as white as when they went in. No other discoloration of any sort. I am thinking it's running lean because of the fuel pressure problem. It also has the foul cat smell after a WOT run. I am thinking that because of the low fuel pressure on this thing that the previous owner helped kill the cats. I am just needing some opinions as if I am on the right track....and I have an idea (actually 2) of retrofitting modern HID bulbs in 2nd gen housings using the old bulbs...just need some old bulbs to try and a new run of the mill HID bulb. If either or both ideas work, they will be posted on LVC so others can do it.
Thanks for any help

Well the HID thing has pretty much been figured out....

As far as the idle I'd check for vacuum leaks, i bet you still have one... check everything, and then check twice again.

Quickest thing is togo to any advance auto and ask them to scan your engine. It's free. the scan plug in is right below the sterring wheel under the dash. If you are missing, and it is a cop, it will tell you which cylinder it is.
