I have a 2000 v8 and love it. About 75k on the clock and it runs perfectly. Just bought new tires and brakes (haven't installed them yet). My father makes this point every time I talk about buying a new car - maybe he's just more wise than I am. I still owe on the car but have been offered more than I owe on it and I would love to take the step up to let's say a 2005 LSE. I've found a few in the area for 14-16k with low miles. What do you guys think?

do it... the gen 2's are way better... just go test drive one... the gen 2 will make up your mind for you........

Money is a little tight, moving into my first house at the end of the month. So pretty much 5 to 6k worth having the better car? You guys seem to think so

with buying a house you dont want to get to much ahead of yourself

owning a house is awesome... i cant wait to buy my first... keep the gen 1 till things settle down... But just so you know... I own a 2004 LS.. I wish i would have spent the extra money on a 05 LSE.... I owned a Gen 1 and I wouldn't trade my Gen 2 for a gen 1 with 0 miles on it!

FYI...even though the Gen 2 is newer..if you already put so much money into fixing the Gen 1 then what's the point? You will get new or similar problems in a Gen 2 and you never know how the previous owner kept it :P

me personally... i like the ride, interior, and look alot better then the gen 1... thats enough for me to deal with VCG's if its a problem... still havent had that problem on my 04 yet... and coils.. if you already did coils tell the dealer you want yours... and even though you spent the money on the coils or VCG problem on a gen 1 or 2 doesnt mean 2 months down the line its not going to happen agian??? right!

this coming from a gen 1 owner....

To me the car is irrelevant. Why do you still owe money on the 2000? And, why would you want to go further into debt? Keep what you have and get yourself into a better financial position. Then you can get the car you really want in the future.

That is the advice to follow.
