Another thread got me wondering. I need a tune after all the mods I have done, exhaust, gears, JMOD, new intake (soon), etc.

What is the best tuner? I would like something I can plug in and tune my self, not have to have someone e-mail me a new tune and load it from there, but tune it myself. So what are my options? Whats the best thing out there? Or am I better off getting my SCT chip re-burned? Im not in a location that would support a dyno tune, would have to drive at least 3 hours to get to one of those.

So whats my best option? Prices?

Here is what I would do....

Assuming this is for the 97 I would get an SCT Pro Racer Package and find a used Xcal 2.... those two things will allow you to tune everything from a bone stock Mark to a Supercharged/Turbo/Nitrous Mark.... You will have to do the tunning yourself, but it really isn't as hard as people make it out to be :)

How did I know you were going to say that??? :)

because he's right..lolz

the sct stuff is SO easy, even a nitwit like KK can do it.

his car runs great, no BS issues with anti-theft, no speed limiters, no "begging tuners to fix a problem for him".

when he wants to change something, he just goes and does it.

Seriously, if a poor postwhoring college student can do it.
A bonefide marine should be able to make short work of tuning with the sct stuff.

With that said, I'm sure KK and myself can help you over the learning curve.
I'd be glad to help, as well.

Lol.... look in your sig for the answer to why I support my SCT system :)

how many times did you "try" before your car was tuned to your satisfaction?

I know it was less than twice.

that in itself speaks volumes.

how many "tune problem" threads have you seen KK POST in.. "many" right?
how many tune problem threads have you seen KK START????

ZERO.

again, that should speak volumes.

You got any more info on the pro racer package? I already have an SCT cihp from reinhardt auto, its just a single program with (i am guessing) an "off the shelf" tune. Evidently I need to do some more research but not sure where to look.

There is very little public information about the PRP package.

The cost is right at 329.00.

If you got a chip from Dennis, you might consider getting the PRP package from him, usually when a dealer sells a PRP to a customer that they have already sold a tune file to, that dealer "usually" provides that tune file inside the PRP software for you to customize to your personal preference.

I would find a used Xcal 2 like KK said above, they go from 50-150 on ebay.

PRP comes wide open, with all the features other tuning solutions charge you extra for.

I did alot of research before making my PRP purchase, it's hands down the leader in the tuning industry.

Jerry of Jmod fame helped develop the PRP software, that in ITSELF should be a very very good reason to go that route.

If Jerry thought it was needed for tuning it is IN the software.

When I got my PRP package it was for my 95 mark 8, that needed a chip.
So I needed a chip 200.00, a chip burner 450.00 and the software 329.00
900.00 plus mark up from my sct dealer drove the price to 1097.00!!!

Now with that said...4 years later, I still think it was "money well spent".

you know how it goes, after you spend a large amount of money, after time goes on.. you kinda regret spending "that much".

NEVER in 4 years have I regretting spending 1100.00 dollars.

You can get it for "far less" than I paid.

329.00 for PRP
100-200 for Xcal 2.

So for less than half, or right at HALF of what I spent.. you can have it all.

I would do it again tomorrow..

I do agree though the PRP is the way to go.

WTH... is up with everyone agreeing with me today.

damn internet, cant even spark up a good argument these days

crap

Whats up with people agreeing with KK?? this is spooky. And I thought we were past April 1st :)

Funny the chip that didnt work was an SCT :D

Did you tune that chip?

What problems did you have with it?

and.. are you sure the problems were with the chip?
not the "tune" or your "car"?

Alot of people blame the tune because their 100ish thousand mile fuel pump cant keep up.. or that their maf is dirty and cant accurately measure the air.

NO ONE ever has a problem with the car, it's always "the chip, or the tune".

So what issue did you have with that sct chip?
AND

Who was the tuner that wrote the tune?
LASTLY what did the tuner say when you approached them with an issue?

I bought it used off of some punk kid on tccoa who neglected to tell me that he had been having issues with it so I sent it to boc and he told me that half the banks on the chip were dead or something like that. Now it sits as a paper weight to remind me to never buy used electronics off of forums. It really wasnt SCT's fault and Boc was great, he even felt bad and offered me a xcal2 and tune for like $60 off.

^ well that explains alot....

hell you made it sound like you got a new chip and had problems with it..
that were unresolved.

thanks for clearing that up

if "half the banks" are dead, it should still be able to hold two tunes.

I may be wrong..but hell..only one way to find out

Thats what the :D was for. I was being a smartass

sorry my smartass.exe was locked up and I didn't get the notification.
Will reinstall smartass.exe from back up.

it wont happen again
(lolz)

with a switch chip you can wire it to turn on the nitrous tune when you got WOT.

now, I wont call people stupid for not using a Nitrous specific tune.
But..it isn't very smart to not fully utilize the options you have before you.
