When everyone says 4-2 shift is bad for OD, do you mean flooring the gas at 60 and it automatically downshifts from OD to 2nd. Or do you mean Manually shifting from D to 2??

I notice myself flooring it on the highway to pass or merge etc, just want to know if it is bad to floor it when the car is in OD.

Wow that sucks, haha. Did lincoln expect everyone to press OD switch before flooring it, then again 60 years olds never floor it.:D

This makes me want to just drive with OD off all the time. Almost everything i read about "overdrive" is bad, except for saving some gas.

It isn't like the trans is made of glass... just need to know that this isn't a new car anymore... if you want to beat on it expect to put a new trans in soon....

Hey Guinnessman, Don't pick on us old timers! LOL!! One of the joys of driving a Mark VIII is when I'm driving on the highway and I come upon some yuppie driving his BMW in the passing lane and he won't pull over, I mash the gas and blow by him in his piece of s#*t import. Ya, I know it's not good for the tranny. But it feels good.

Yesterday when I went ot Autozone to pick up some stuff I passed a Gallardo convertible like this but in Yellow.

I wanted to turn around and screw with him something fierce but I was in my 6 speed 500 horse WRX so he might have taken it the wrong way :shifty:

Otherwise I was mashing the gas and dropping to 2nd gear all the time and it was on a trans that hadn't seen a service for 80k or so  Since I had it serviced it is a ton smoother but now I will remember to push the OD button if that makes the difference?

I've seen the light! From this day forward, this old timer will not mash the gas before turning off o/d. I hope the tranny gods will look favorably on me and not punish me for my past indescrections.

yea... i do it all the time. i love when it flashes to 5k and just rips! But i think the 02 mustang gt trans i have can handle it.

no, you can turn it off and on while driving. i do it all the time on the highway to be easier on the breaks...

I do it all the time as well,

I have an '03 GT trans, jmodded, deep pan, and cooler. Plus it only has about 47-48K on the trans now.

I think it's fun, the only time the Lincoln will get up and go is from a roll. It's a turd out of the hole.

Why would doing this hurt anything? I have been doing it for 12 years? Daily.

what year trans is in your car Geno?

the pre-98 cars had a POS one way clutch that was upgraded in 98.
the 93-97 cars were the ones you "really had to worry about".

BUT.. I beat the dogsnot out of my 95 box...daily, and weekly at the dragtrip.

But it was Jerry that said "dont do it", and I generally take what he says as fact...and consider myself lucky for "getting away with it".

You know how it is, though.
For years.. you "get away" with something and the DAY you find out it's a NO NO, something blows up.
It's almost as if "ignorance is bliss".

On my svo mustang I drove it about 75K with a broken piston skirt.
it made a horrible noise...
Within two days of a friend of mine saying "that's a broken piston" the car lost all oil pressure.
pulled the pan and both peices of the broken skirt were in the oil pump pickup screen.

literally...I beat the snot out of that car, and it didn't BREAK until I "learned what the problem was", then it promptly CRAPPED.

ignorance IS bliss.

BAST@RD!

let the countdown begin.

funny you say that because the car was sitting on it's butt this morning

THANKS BRANDON!

P.S. your hardrive on your laptop sounds funny.

yea the location on your HD those drivers are installed has crapped.
it's a cascading effect, you'll see more as time goes on.

ICEBERG RIGHT AHEAD!

I don't think they make it anymore.... people have talked about adapting a Mustang trans mount to replace their stock mount.
