New mod... ipod holder.

Well when I asked for the buttons and stuff, I meant the upper vents with the buttons and everything. that whole piece. Oh well.

Ah :q:q:q:q my bad. I have no idea how to get that piece off anyway.

Pektel how did you manage to hold the Ipod cable under the deck?? Really interested on a How-To

Avic Z3! If you can swing the bucks has 30 gigs of space! I love that you throw in a buddys CD that you like and bam automatic burn. :D

Plus I have the 120 gig iPod.

i was thinking about doing something like this in the cupholder, but I think I might be trading in the Linc :( So no hacky for me.

I don't smoke, nor do I let people smoke in my car, so no biggie.

I just epoxied that as well. I did sand down the bottom of the cradle, to get a better connection:

will i work for my ipod touch

I don't see why it wouldn't, as long as you can hook up your ipod to your stereo.

Pete, how come you decided to epoxy it to the bottom instead of putting the dock through the woodgrain? Was the pattern for the bottom of the deck too much of a hassle? Or did you want the lateral support of the woodgrain as well?

Do you mean why I didn't drop it in from the top? Yeah I wanted it to be the least obtrusive as possible. I also wanted a large enough lip to get a good grip with the epoxy. I figured this way would look the most "factory". I just wish the cable I bought would charge the ipod at the same time.

good on ya for going into custom one of work! Takes a pair to do so and much less to do what I'm about to do and comment about doing it differently.

I would have take that dock piece and set it into the dash trim from the top. It has smoother edges than the hole you cut. Paint the dock the flat black like you did so it matches the thermo controls then super glue it under the tabs from the top. when dry enough, flip it and epoxy from the bottom. Also instead of letting it dry, i would have gotten accelerator from lock tite. not too bad for prices but makes expoxy harden up better and stronger. Thats the other part of the cradle being on top of the trim, the epoxy doesnt have to hold while you push the ipod in, only when taking it out which is much less stress. Like I said though, good job buddy! Looks pretty good and is VERY creative!

if you put the epoxy into where they meet, it like makes new plastic of sorts and would have held every bit as well.

The only step left is freshening up the cutout itself, as I was a little unimpressed by it's looks as well. I was thinking about rounding it over a little bit, and smoothing out, then painting it the same black as the cradle.

The only problem with dropping it through the top, is you'd still have to grind away at the ashtray surround from the top, to get the cradle to recess so it sits flush with the surrounding woodgrain. I don't know how much work that would be, or how much better (if any) it would look, being that the cradle is completely flat, and the ashtray surround is contoured.

I agree that your idea would be better as far as the stress placed while putting the ipod in, but it doesn't require much to push it down. It actually holds very well.

I did ponder both ways to install before actually cutting into it.

Looks good pete! Now there are two customized ashtray setups in the state....well that we know of anyways :shifty: . Nice work! :Beer

What about a rubber inlay around the rim of the woodgrain?

That's a great idea. I was thinking about some type of trim around there, but I don't want it to be too obtrusive.

Thanks! This was probably easier than the clock mod.
