Dead ODBII port...

Just throwing this out there on the chance someone else had this happen.

My ODBII port seems in-op. I attached my XCal and nothing. So I plugged the XCal into another car and it worked fine. Even pulled trouble codes.

So I know the XCal is good and its a problem with the 96 Mark.

Any ideas before I start ripping stuff apart? And I have a shop manual, keep forgetting it at home so I have not had the chance to see how its wired in.
 
Make sure the wires are seated properly. It could be that one of the connections at the port backed out over time.
 
Ya.... I think its a connector issue too. If I have time I think I will just remove the port and look it over.

Sucks. I need my data logs!

check that page, it'll tell you which obd2 language your car is using based on the position of the "populated pins".

once you figure out which pins should be ground and hot it'll go along ways in helping you sort out where the issue is.

With that said, I know you thought about powering the xcal with a usb cord, DONT DO IT.
It wont supply enough voltage to complete or even start the flashing process..you will probably get a "not enough voltage" error.

Every search result I found for this issue was everytime a problem with the power wire (blown fuse) for the obd2 connector.
I found about 8-9 posts about it on the web.
 
All the pins look good and in place. I too a macro pic with my camera, sorta hard to crawl under an look in the bad lighting.

I will go over the fuses next, including the high amp ones.
 
the things got its own little fuse, first time it happened to me it threw me on a loop too i was working on an Escalade.............

im pretty sure all OBD2 cars have it like that.............
 
I saw it piggy backed with the cigarette lighter on some platforms.. Lightning trucks if I remember correct.

I did not think there were 38 fuse locations. And there are not, at least in a Gen 1.

In my 96 there is no designation for any fuse for a datalink connection, at least in the owners manual. So I checked all dash fuses and they were all fine.

So I opened the relay box and again compared to the owners manual. Everything was as it should be. But there are at least three mini-fuse locations that are designated as empty. Well I decided to put fuses in anyway and the forward most one was it. Not sure why the owners manual mentions this one should be blank.

But its working, glad it was not a damaged harness or something.
 
ford might of done that from the factory, when we flashed the bird for the 4v we had the same problem (95 obd2) found the fuse missing, put one in and voila!
