I have a question about gears. It seems like everyone on here is talking about putting 4.10 gears in there Mark. With those gears what does the 4.6 spin at when you are doing highway speeds of 65-70mph?
Instead of starting a new thread; I also have some question's about gears.
I've heard(from searching) with gears, you need a new driveshaft and have even heard that our input shafts can't "handle" gears. Any of this true?
Also, what is required to do gears? Obviously the gears and tlock installation of course, but what else? Speedo gear, chip, etc.
Thanks and sorry not trying to hijack your thread ss.
Mine had vibs with the stock gears. I have a 4" dynotech shaft. The 94-98 two piece shaft is JUNK... they can vibrate with 3.08's and I wouldn't recommend keeping one for any gears deeper than 3.27's. The 93 one piece shaft is much much better, and can handle 3.73's or 4.10's if you don't want to do top speed runs up to 130+... If you really want to get serious a 3.5 or 4 inch Denny's HD aluminum shaft is the way to go.
What else is required... I would Call Max and order your gears, track lock, and all the rebuild components in one shot... that way you will have everything and you will know it will be the right stuff. I would then take it to a speed shop and have them installed, any place that does mustangs can handle that job.
Other parts you will need depends on year....
Second Gen's:
No speedo gear, the speedometer reads of the ABS system
Tune, again a must if you want the best results, I'd look for a used Xcal2 and a tune from an SCT dealer.
