my engine made a rumbling noise during startup last night. i didn't have a check engine light, but it also made the ruimbling noise when i revved the engine under 2 rpms. it felt like the how the engine performs whens the engine power is reduced due to overheating. what could this be??? i have a 2002 ls v8.

gas it and tool around with it till it tosses a code. It should sooner or later, just play with it.

could it be the coils, i replaced the coil pack and got a major tune-up two years ago. i put about 40000 miles on it since then.

My Shelby Mustang does that all the time even above 2 rpm but it is caused by the camshaft I am told. Sounds good to me even at 6000 RPM. LOL

Wait.

Are you positive you weren't bouncing it off the rev limiter?

If your sure I dont think I would blame this on a coil. I would wait for further replies tho.

How are you guys getting engines to run down to 2 RPM? My minimum (idle) RPM is about 700.

Im pretty sure he is talking about 2k rpms. I hope so at least!

i'm pretty sure that it's not the rev limiter, i know the difference. plus i hear this rumble when i first start the engine. it almost feels like the rev limiter has been dcreaesed to limit it a t 2k rpms. i just drove it around the block to see if it does it. it didn't but, when it's in park and i rev it i saw some white greyish smoke coming out of the exhaust. the car drove fine no hesitations or anything just when starting it up and revving hte engine.

i know, i forgot to mention this, it didn't begin to do this until i put some oil in the engine i put about 4 quarts. is this a possibile culprit for the white smoke. what do y'all think??

Yes running it without oil will do that. LOL

Its to much oil!

I think its like 6 quarts so you must have already had some in it.

But to much oil will do that.

the oil was the problem, a simple oil change solved the problem. thanx to all of the people who helped.
