1.5 lowered conversion

I bought the standard height coil conversion for my 93 several months back from american air. Now I'm itching for the 1.5 lowered kit. I haven't called Eddie yet about it. My question is could I just cut a full coil off the springs I have now and get the same effect as the 1.5 lowered kit? If that would work just as well, its alot better than $450 for the kit. Thanks guys
 
You can cut factory springs. I have done it before but it never rides or handles as well as eibach or h&r springs. Do a search on ebay i just ordered my h&r springs for $175 3 weeks ago and they are as good if not better than my eibachs that I had on my 97 T-Bird. I love my spring conversion, air ride was to much of a headache;) .

You've cut FACTORYmark VIII springs before? Do tell... WHERE are these springs, since the Mark VIII's don't have coilover springs?

I cut a factory rear spring with a pair of scissors (big ubersharp ones)
I needed a small flap of that rubber so I hacked a piece out of an old spring.

yea.. I'm a badd*ss I cut rear springs with scissors!
 
little squares cut from the rear springs would make great "wetsuit kneepads" to prevent scuffing and abrasions.
 
He said you can cut "factory springs", NOT "factory mark viii springs". he was referring to the ride characteristics of the factory height coil swap.
If you want it lower, like said before you can use thunderbird springs after a coil conversion.
 
I just got an email from Eddie and he says "To achieve the lowered stance, you just cut 1 coil from all 4 springs. (not the flat side)". :rolleyes:
 
the lowered kit is just that, a coil is cut off of each spring. Eddie said so himself!

That's because there are no factory springs in the mark. I'm talking about the aftermarket strutmasters kit.

Are you sure you can't use the search function and find those factory coil springs?:D
 
the devices in the rear, in the parts catalog are called "air springs".
 
and as usual there is a plethora of "converted to coils" mark 8's on ebay.
stock ones, modded ones, 330 HP ones with 410 gears and sct chip.

it happens over and over and over, once converted they silently disappear on ebay.
 
Cutting oem-like springs should be fine. it won't ride stiff.. Stock like handling with stock-like ride, but lowered.

OEM springs don't have much tension, so .. if you're just cutting for one ring, it'll be no worries. It won't be too bad on Camber, and shocks.

On the other hand, if you where to cut Higher tension springs.. you're car will handle great, but going over slightest bumps will send your head bobbling... known to tuners as "rice bounce" lol.

it's all physics really.


I can't say for Marks, but i'm guessing buying 1.5 drop springs should improve handling, without killing your suspension ride.




I relate this from first hand experience but not from Marks. Back then, I wanted to lower my import. So I was going to put in ebay coilovers, but decided to go with cut springs.... best choice ever. Of course it handles stock-like, but the ride is comfy.. and the car has a nice stance. That's all i wanted, looks. :)

Anything dropped to 2" and below needs to be backed up with camber kits and performance shocks in the import world... or you comprise tire wear, shock wear, drive-ability and comfort.

Bringing this thread back to life because of the title, and its not that old.

I have the Strutmasters 1.5 lowered coil conversion on my car. The Front struts are Aquamarine that say strutmasters on like a gold plate with red springs that say strutmasters in tiny font on them, along with red rear springs as well.

Question is: From this post I was gathering that the springs are just cut???? My car is bouncy as hell, its not out of control... but it erks me. Also from a picture of other lowered conversions i've seen a black shock and a blue spring I think for the regular ride height and lowered? Is this correct? Also that the suspension has a lifetime warranty? Monroe shocks?

Mine don't say Monroe Shocks but they defintly say strutmasters on the suspension and the ride is pretty bouncy - not in the hoopty way but just like its more for that luxary comfy ride. Just want to verify if anyone has the same setup I have with the BluishGreen shocks and the red springs.

The back of my car is sagging pretty tough, guess I'll pick up those Monroe Shocks off American Air... 30 bucks and 20 for the mount aint bad. But there are more options, how do they stack up against say cobra rear shocks?
 
A buddy of mine has the non lowered coil conversion and his army either... Not sure what brand it was but I want a non bouncy ride these springs gotta
Go can't believe they are cut how beat.

That is one of my main points in regards to coil springs..

I've driven and ridden in converted cars and they are bouncy..over expansion joints on the hiway the front of the car goes up and down like a boat.

it's just "so un mark 8 like" IMHO it drasticly takes away from the cars character and ride quality it's just not worth the "money saved"..again.. IMHO.
