4R70W Transmission interchange

So I messed up my j-mod that i did back in like... October. I just took my Mark off the jackstands today and took it out for a spin...

No 3rd or 4th/OD...

Opps I messed it up - I think I put the solenoids from a 96 4R70w in there and they might be messing it up, but I'm thinking my trans is FUBAR'd.

Either way... I need a plan B and I'm thinking it might be time to just throw a new trans in it.

I found a mustang trans locally for a good price. It's a 2001 4R70W. Does anyone know where i can find info on swapping the newer 4r70w's to my Mark?

Thanks guys - at this point I'm thinking the solenoid I put in is causing the problem. IIRC it controls the 2-3 actuation, and since I only get 1-2 action I might as well try replacing it with the original one. The 1-2 shift is really nice, and I don't have any grinding or weirdness other than the loss of 2-3 and 3-4/OD.

I did that swap search my name I have a couple threads about it. If you have 4.10s you need a speed cal, get the wiring harness with the new trans. Swap over all sensors from the original trans. Mlps, tcc, etc

I found a 4r70w out of a 99 Grand Marquis for $275 with 36k on it.

I think I might be buying it very soon!

Tail shaft may be longer on that. Don't know for sure, but big long 4 door vs. mark viii? Someone on here knows.

I read in jerry's doc that only Police crown vics and Lincoln Town cars have the longer tailshaft.

All Grand Marquis will have the correct short tail shaft.
