Did a search and nothing came up, has anybody tried to upgrade to 14" brakes and if so was is it worth it? I saw in a mm&ff mag that they have this upgrade starting at $800.00, I know that there are cheaper ways. I just want to know if it could work, I want my mark to stop and steer well as go fast. I already a planned for 13"s but if it would work and is way better than the latter then I will go with that. Any positive info is more than welcome thanks.

They should bolt right up to the spindle no problem. You will probably have to get some ss hoses made though.

Although I did not do it on my Mark I did a 14.5 inch swap on my WRX and it made all the difference in the world!

Stock there supposed to have really good brakes and it did but it was eating up pads and rotors like mad when I swapped to 17" inch rims and tires. So instead of buying a set of Brembo's off an STi for $1500 used I got an AEM big brake upgrade. Basically involved putting on 14.5's in the front and 13's in the back with caliper spacers to get them spaced out so you could still use the strockers.

Blammo the thing will turn off the first exit at Englishtown even when trapping 117mph :D I still haven't had to put new pads on since I did the swap cause you hardly have to touch the brakes to slow the car down ;)

Here we go.... im waiting for someone to chime in and say the stock mark brakes are so good there is no need to upgrade.

I wonder why so many people upgrade to cobra brakes. (like myself)

Cobra brakes FTW. I was thinking of dropping 150 on drilled and slotted but my raybestos OEM spec rotors don't seem to get hot at all.

I'd think that any 14" kit that fits the 13" Cobra stuff we usually use would work fine.
Trying to find rims that will clear the calipers if they are 4 piston or more would be a challenge though. This is the same problem I ran into even with the Brembo's and 13" Cobra stuff...

I'm assuming your speaking of clearance between the inner spoke of the wheel and the outside face of the caliper?

The kit that I saw was an upgrade kit using cobra calipers, and if not I would just do a hub swap and buy some 05/09 wheels on the cheap.

Yes.

I was going to get the Brembo 4 piston calipers instead of the OEM 2 piston ones when I switched over, (where I got them from there was only <$150 difference,) but even with the 20" rims on the car there was still 2mm to little clearance between the inner side of the spokes and face/edge of the calipers. :(
SSBC does make a 3 piston caliper setup that should fit anything the 2 piston ones fit, but I never looked into it much as there was no where close to get them from this side of the border...

When I did the big brake rotor swap with the stock calipers it had a problem hitting the inside of the rim. So I ground the top outer edge of the caliper with a grinder to make the clearance. I worked until I hit a pot hole and egg shaped the rim enough that you could hear it scrape with the windows down

I looked at the big brake kit at fordracing.com and they are the brembos and the rotors are 14" 1 peice, so I would venture to guess that a hub swap would be best. I read some mlschultz' threads about the clearance thing, he went the expensive route I am just going to do the hub swap and get the better clearance from the mustang wheels.

I found a kit from baer brakes that will work with stock cobra calipers, 13"or 14" for the front and the rear. For about $700.00 for the front and $400.00 fro the rear, the downside is you either have to a hub swap or you will need to have the rotors redrilled to our bolt pattern.

I wonder if I can get a local shop to do this for me since I dont have the means to. Ill have to ask my mechanic buddies if they know somebody that do it.

So I was looking real quick on the Baer web page and was wondering what one you found that would be the kit?
