I was driving around last nite and I happend to look down at the steering wheel and noticed that the all the buttons on the steering wheel dont really light up that much. I dont know if anyone has really notice it or not? Thinking about how I would take it apart and take the green LEDs out and put in a different color of LED that would be more clear. I dont know if it would even be possible, just a thought....

Its a great idea but time consuming since it would only make sense to match the entire interior!

People do it, you need a mass amount of LEDs and some resistors.

Someone posted some European car getting a detail job/full work over and they replaced all the little lights for white ones.

I hate the green and really want a revers glow gauge face but I just dont like they way it looks with all the green.

so it is possible then, it might be more of a summer job if I happen to take it on. I hate all the green in the car, wish it was just easier to get at!

i think we all hate the green, but its fords favorite color, my gfs Mariner is all blue , it looks so good. in the future they auto companies should make the colors change at the push of a button. like the mood lighting but for all of the panel lights. We can only dream

+1 agreed

I wish I could remember what car it was, but when I was selling cars we had one come in with all the interior buttons orange - to match the color of the car

The Surface Mount Diode replacement is near the bottom of the first page.

i did this to my climate controlls in my mark with blue leds because some of them burned out, the biggest problem is that most buttons are a small white light (not leds) and the green color is a filter layer under the white layer, under the black layer. so the green can not be taken out, this was true with my mark, that is why i used blue, i first tried red, but the green filtered almost everything out and was just about black. the blue worked good, but it did still have a weird slightly green tint to it

i dont know about the newer cars but with the mark the green was the first filter put on the plastic so i would have had to sand down through the black and white and would have had to repaint the button itself. that is the one thing keeping me from trying this to the LS,

that and i wish that i had the time to replace 120 SMD's

I like the bmw interior lights, vdub etc the red IMO defines luxury. Blue is also good looking

ya im aware of that... but they could at least put a different color in or attempt to make them a little brighter from factory

I like the lighting from the vanity mirrors turned down all the way.. Very dim orange color.

I will flip that thing down after hitting the drive through, and just cruise home dippin in the ranch saaauce.. under the orange glow. I would use them over the dome light anyday!

My Highlander has all white, bright as hell and not anywhere near annoying at all. It has a dimmer also;)

not sure about our cars, but the Pontiac guys are doing their soltices, G5,G6 and G8's by using qtips and paint thinner to remove the color on the gauges and then adding celophane to get the desired colors.

Me and cartoys discussed last year about turning ALL my green to red, blue, or white. I too hate green, only reason why I woulda bought a pontiac or Mazda was the red interior lighting. But that's why you mod your car..to make it YOU and now like an OLD person's car..and only people love the green...in fact..that's why they have a green color for our cars.......haha

i remember reading through that till i couldn't take it anymore. that guy is super anal, which is great an all but i do not have even 1/10th of his dedication to my car as he does

If i had that much dedication I'd have as long of a receeding hairline as that euro guy does......

Dude, I can't believe I read the whole thing! Took me all day!

That is just nuts! I couldn't even dream of being that anal. I thought my 9 hour wax job was obsessive! Yikes!

funny thing is.....that guy will at like Smeegil from LOTR whenever he's out on the road....I'd love to see someone scratch or ding that :q:q:q:q....he'd go all genocide or something similar......start a war.....

You spent 9 hours on just WAX? Waxing takes me maybe 30 minutes, and that's when I'm applying by hand (no applicator, sort of like massaging the paint).

Or are you including prep work too?

He meant Gollum from Lord of the Rings. Way to let your freak flag fly Pete!

Anyway, I do believe you can change the colors at will in the new Ford Flex.
