i have a 04 ls6 w/stock halogens.. do i need to purchase the whole HID:confused: kit or can i just swap bulbs since it was an option with the 03 an up

If you mean to have actual HIDs then you would need to get an HID kit (ballasts, bulbs and so on).

Yes you need 2 ballasts and 2 bulbs and harness. I have some if you are interested.

We sell three different brands of HID kits on our website. Remember, LvC Gold Members get 10% off all products!

the lenses are different from stock halogen and stock hid. something to do with the focal point or whatever . stock new hid housings are 800 a piece lol

.... and installing HID's in a halogen housing will scatter light and blind (or at least annoy) other drivers.

Yes and no. I have had them in my car for well over 4 years. Never had one person flash their lights at me. The reason is that I adjusted the beam down a touch since the HID's are much brighter.

That might help, and people are getting used to the sometimes excessive-seeming brightness of even factory HID's, so that's more likely the reason for the lack of flashing; however, the fact remains that HID and halogen systems focus the light in very different ways, and one is not compatible with the other. Some may be more "forgiving" than others, but you simply cannot get a proper beam pattern using an HID bulb in a reflector housing designed for halogens. Period.

Great explanations and test evidence on the subject at DanielSternLighting.com - http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html.

P.S. - I'm sure other folks appreciate your consideration in making the adjustment. Most people just do it and don't care.

I understand how HID works. I have been selling HID's for over 5 years. However, conversion kits are not to be compared to OEM HID's but they are much better than regular halogen. Also, HID conversion kits are that they are NOT DOT approved.

FYI, the OEM LS HID's do NOT use projectors in the headlight assemblies.

I understand this, and didn't mean to pee in your Wheaties, Ken. I also didn't say "don't do it," it's just that a lot of people don't understand that you can't simply put a conversion kit in and expect factory results, nor do they consider the ramifications of doing so.
