just brought a used 04 LS with 56k on it. new to the forum and wanted to know what kind of problems would i be running into with this car

coil failure, Valve cover gasket leak, I have now seen something about half shafts... transmission problems heater core issues...

just like every other car in the world....

Valve cover gasket problems were pretty much fixed on the 2nd gen LS, you have an extended warranty of 100k miles or 10 years. Coil failure due to water contamination from seal is also covered.

so what would i do to go get thee things checked out...im really dnt knw a whole lot about engine parts

I would call your local Lincoln dealer, give them your VIN and see if your car is covered by this extended factory warranty on coils, plugs and valve cover gaskets. I had one of the kids that used to post on here who lives near me do that when he found oil in a few of the plug wells and he was covered. Saved him the time and money of doing it himself.

If you do a search for "program m707", you should see a thread started by me with a scan of the letter I got from Ford about this problem.

Good luck and enjoy the new car.

heater will get stuck on high heat at some point in time. Probably pretty soon if it hasn't happened already. called the DCCV

My Dual Climate Control Valve DCCV went and I would only get heat if I put it up to 90 and AC if I put it to 60.
120.00 from Rock Auto and about 20 minutes to change out.
It's at the passenger bottom side of the back of the rad and has 3 hoses and a 3 wire connector.
Have to bleed the coolant system to finish.

will any of those things permanently harm this car if i dnt get it taken care of immediately

If the car isn't misfiring or running rough should be fine.
Coils aren't hard to change out.
Advance auto sells them for 50.00 or so but you can buy 8 on ebay for 150.00. I keep a spare as a coil is usually an overnight as they don't stock them in the stores.
Check the coolant level.
Mine was actually down by a gallon and the car still ran fine until one day last week the temp guage shot up and it went into low power mode.
Should have realized something was up since I'd hear gurgling noises from the dash after turning the car off.
I won't know now but the low coolant could have been the cause of my heater problems.
A simple check will save you from being stranded and possibly harming the engine.

You'll know when you hit low power mode! It's also been called "limp home". it drastically cuts power to the engine. I think you can only attain speeds of about 20 MPH.

I had that happen on the freeway when my coils went out. I was able to coast my way to the off ramp and limp into a parking lot.

low power mode is actually a good thing although you will not think so when it happens. It reduces your power giving you just enough to get home or to the shop. I discovered what it was when 4 coils went bad this summer. A light comes on too but I don't remember which one.

Congrats on buying the 04 it is a great car. With car prices down right now I'll bet you got a good deal on it too.

It tells you "low power mode" or "fail safe mode" on the cluster display on the right.
The car feels like a 4 cylinder and you have to rev to about 3000 rpm for it to upshift.
I got up to about 45 mph but only drove like that about a mile to take the wife to a doctors clinic.
Had it flatbed towed to my mechanic and it turned out to be just low on coolant.
While he was at it changed out the DCCV and the heater started working correctly again.
But like I said maybe just the low coolant caused the heating problems.

I wouldnt tell someone buying a LS that myself..... if you have no check engine light, a lot of the dealers wont do :q:q:q:q.. its pretty much asking them to fix something that isn't broke to them...

and my Gen 2 Leaks both sides down the sides of the block... not just on to the coils... so yes my 50,000 mile lincoln ls leaks oil on the ground... but only one side lwaks on to the coils lol.... I'll fix it myself eventually... Gen 2 Valve cover leak is not fixed

don't take that post wrong man directing it at you... just to new buyers

I wonder if they would just give me the gaskets and let me do it myself......

nope!! just called the dealership and it has to be in the shop, they will not give me the gaskets to do myself

Kinda figured that one.

That's why I bought 8 coils and 8 plugs and did them over the weekend...even though we found the #5 plug well soaked in oil. And that's after they already did both VCGs. Getting tired of leaving the car there with no loaner. Once I get the Tahoe on the road, it's going in so I have something to drive to work.

yea i have an appointment thursday but i think im just going to for over the 80 bucks and buy the gaskets myself... I rather be working on my car for 2 to 3 hours myself then wait a hole day for them to do it wrong... you know what im saying
