Gen 2 headlight question regarding use of high beams instead of HIDs

Is there any way to use a less powerful halogen bulb in the high beam location on a gen2 instead of using the hids for lows?

I had a hid go out and I don't want to spend a bunch of money! It seems like there could be an easy way to "dim" the high beams and use those as normal low beams. What do you think?

not the best choice of automobile sir.

Sorry to say most all the parts are relatively expensive.

your options are limited in the aftermarket HID dept.

Mafioso makes a kit, you can find him here on this message board.

There are cheaper ebay kits, that some report they are happy with.

no not really, there is no "less powerful" halogen that is gonna be any dimmer to any measurable extent.

The typical low beam configuration uses a sheild in front of the bulb then only transmits reflected light out the front of the housing.

The mark 8 high beam has an exposed halogen bulb with no shield, it's going to be difficult to effectively "dim it down" in a clear faced HID housing.

there really is no "win win" solution..again.. sorry to say.

Thanks for the reply. I knew it wasn't this easy, but I wanted to know why. I don't mind putting money into my mark viii, but I usually on do that to make it faster! I've been dreading the day the bulb burns out for so long.

Believe me, I feel your pain.

I just bought a second gen back in april and it had a low beam HID burnt out when I got it..

Hell. when you had two working low beams you could have bought the conversion kit, then Ebayed the two OEM bulbs and it would have almost cost you Zero...other than fronting the initial 300 dollars.

I bought the Mafioso kit and then sold my bulbs and only have $75 into everything and I still have my factory ballast....
