I have always thought that I would have no problem beating a Magnum. Last week I noticed a nice black Magnum with 24's... also noticed his spare tire on his rear driver side... I decided to see if he wanted to race.... after 10 mins of him telling me about all the cars he has beaten... I realized he was a liar... Shelby Cobra.... Saleen.... no way he has beaten those.... So my real question for all you guys is.... WILL I WIN? I have flomasters 40's with 2.5 inch piping with the KKM intake and Xcal 2 with tunes by ILLS.

Magnum has intake exhaust and "chip" also. However he has 24's that probly weigh at least 30lbs each, and his donut spare. it is not an srt8 so I think I have a good chance.. and so do all the other people I have asked.

Anyways.... just wanted some other opinions

Would you win? Probably.

But why race him? Both the driver and the car are obviously handicapped.

he insists on racing, and he thinks there is no chance that I will beat him. and he feels that his spare and 24 inch rims are no disadvantage.

at first i thought if he was talkin that much crap, that he could be running some nitrous. but yes, i have to agree with you

Let's see; the LS has 280hp and about the same torque. Even with a tune you're under 325hp and probably 315ftlb torque. The LS weighs around 4K pounds.

The Magnum (with the "small" Hemi) has 350hp and 390ftlb torque. The magnum weighs about 4400 pounds. His chip would probably equal yours, if not best it (based on available info). Even though it's not the SRT he could still have the 6.1L Hemi. That monster puts out 425hp/420ftlb.

Sooo.... Stock, you're ~13.9 pounds per horsepower; he is ~13.5; assuming the 5.7L Hemi. Looks like it would be pretty close (again, assuming the 5.7L) by the numbers and the difference would be driver and who has the more potent chip/tune.

If he has the 6.1L Hemi, he would have just over 10 pounds per horse and I would probably believe he has taken those Mustangs. IMHO you would lose pretty badly.

yes he does have the 5.7.......30 inch rims.... tiny little spare... and 2 12s in the backseat...........

Well, thats what Im basing my judgment on. Guy sounds like a flake, a 24" wheel is still pretty big regardless of that much power. Those fenders are big and made for big wheels but he still has a bigger wheel than that so he must have some super low pro rubber bands. I bet that guys alignment sucks if hes racing around on those wheels if those cars do have big HP.

Do they make chips for those or is it just one of those gay ass resistors that splice onto the temp sensor?

On the flip side, I wouldn't even ask someone with wheels that big and a little spare to even race.

I have drive the R/T and SRT/8 you can beat the R/T my V6 got the R/T on take off, now the SRT/* is another story. Hell, race him, once magnums hit 100 they get slow, and hard to control.

All the ones i've seen have been slow off the line, I don't see him taking you off the line.

you can get an rt with the 6.1?

I was just looking at the engine specs. I just went to the build-my-own and it looks like the 6.1 isn't an option.

I would say you should be able to win. Just put it in D4 and stomp on the gas!

Or just launch the right way in SST.

Or just shift it over to SST after 1st.

i would just race him if u beat him then u will know he was not telling the truth. Think positive and u will beat him. Everyone thinks those hemis are so fast and the 24's prob weigh more than 30 pounds and that is alot of mass to get started rolling.

+1 All the hype came from advertising and great exhaust sound.

i'd say the wheels are closer to the 50 lbs mark each. The 20's on my marquis weight about 36lbs

i agree 24s are very heavy wheels.if he was on stocks i think he would probably win.then again ive driven a friends 300c and that car was quick on 22s.my ls is also real fast to me so i dont know, just race him and film it so we can see who wins

I'll try to inject some common sense regarding your decision to race. Most donuts have a max speed.... Our LS spare has a noted max. speed of 50, and i can tell you from personal experience that the car handled horrible with the donut on. So lets say you decide to race this guy and his spare gives way and he wraps his car around a tree, your in deep deep sh!t my friend. The decision to be dumb is up to you.

Yeah there is a difference with the donut on I could tell also. But if an idiot wants to race with a donut that's his problem.

till he pulls on you then blows it and gets in your way and you t-bone him then its your problem too

Staying in 4th prevents a shift to 5th ~90mph. You can go faster in 4th, up to the speed or drag limit. According to the head transmission calibrator for the 5R55N, the trans will shift faster and more efficiently on it's own than we can ever shift with the SST. Believe me, I've talked to Mark and he knows his stuff! You don't get to his position without knowing a thing or two.

BTW, he got to drive Hwy1 here in Cal in second gear trying to break the trans.
