Locating Starter Solenoid

i think my starter Solenoid is bad.
i fired the car up to pull it in the drive way, next day went out to start and its making a bad noise. sounds like the starter isnt turning as fast as it should be. not a dead battery. i had a car that did this a few years ago and turned out to be the solenoid.

im trying to locate it under the hood... where can i find it?

i havent had a chance to get under the car.....but what side of the trans is the starter located on?

If you don't know where to find a starter then you're in trouble. Use extreme caution high voltage wire!

High current capacity, yes. High voltage, no.

Check connections on the battery for corrosion, and charge the battery first. Then start blaming the starter.

if you notice my question, and read it again, im asking what size of the trans can i find the starter. im not a complete dumbass when it comes to cars...i know a starter is located on the transmission, right by the bell housing where the flywheel is on the engine, but since all cars are a little different, and again, the post states i havent had a chance to get under the car, i was asking which side. im asking this so when i jack up the car im not scrambling around. and yes, i know the starter + cable has alot of juice running through it, just as much as the + on the battery, which i will disconnect before i start messing with anything electrical on the car.

so if anyone out there can lend me a little guidance for someone who hasnt yet had a chance to crawl under this car....

i have checked the terminal connections on the battery and it is at full charge (battery charger was connected) the starter is not cranking at full speed. i was told to check the solenoid as it could be bad.

The transmission only comes in two size, 5 speed manual and 5 speed auto.

First, the starter is not on the side of the transmission. It's on the side of the engine, like on most cars. (If you unbolt the engine from the transmission, the starter will stay with the engine.) It's on the right side of the engine, like most Fords.

Before condemning the starter, measure the voltage at the starter, while the starter is engaged. (Be sure to put the ground probe on the case of the starter.) If the voltage is low here, it is probably not the starter. (To be sure you have to measure the current at the same time.)

Now if he posts again in a few days that he got fried by licking a hot wire and accidentally dropped his tranny on his foot trying to fix the starter it's GAME ON!

you are correct....it has been a while since ive delt with a starter, and yes it is on the motor side of the motor/trans combo....
thanks for ths suggestion, i will check the voltage before i start replacing parts.
