I did a search and found one guy but no real data was given on how to install, I seen a cool video on utube on how to make a new shroud to surround the projector using a vacuum and some sort of plastic that has been heated up and then vacuumed over the assembly. it seems pretty cool. i have a graveyard of headlights and was thinking about trying this. Any ideas or knowledge on how to would be great.

thanks in advance

i think it looks stupid...sorry good idea though

Yes, looks are sacrificed a little, but the actual output is SO much better than any HID reflector.

It could be worse. He could've put N1 mufflers on :p

But putting glasspacks on a small displacement V8 isn't stupid? Please. The project came out looking pretty OEM. There are plenty of retrofits I've seen that make the car look bug-eyed, and really crappy. It all depends on the parts chosen and the quality of work.

im thinking of doing this on the 03 plus version, i wonder did you ever consider painting the bezels and shroud to match car??? i think that would blend beautifully and look great and also would you consider being tech support if i tackle this thing???

They look awesome but not on our LSes.

if the chrome shroud is body matched and maybe even puting projectors of the highbeam side, maybe. .....but bodymatched for sure i think it would look awesome, i think the projector should be set back further in the housing but not sure if that is possible. maybe if the projector used was smaller

Yeah, but putting on 20" rims, slamming the car to the ground, and tinting the windows so black you can't even see through them looks good? ROFL. This forum cracks me up sometimes. It's unfortunate that the LS has gotten cheap enough that it's becoming just another rice car.

If I recall correctly, you were talking about doing a projector retrofit yourself. I guess you've changed your mind. It's all good though, to each their own.

They sit to high in the bezel. The headlights on the LS 430 ( and everything else ) look awesome but they are a totally different shape that the projector fits as far as looks better than the shape of ours.

The work is 100% professional though!

hahahahhahaha. jwerner is not crapping on your work hes just stating an opinion. but what do u think about painting the shroud???? can someone photoshop it?

You are the most egotistic jerk here buddy what are you talking about!

The only time you post is to post something offensive. People give you honest credit and compliment your work but the slightest thing someone says that you dont like no matter what you talk :q:q:q:q!

I was thinking about doing a retrofit and no I didnt change my mind, I just changed my mind about that style:rolleyes:

Dont even bother, people have gone down that exact road with this guy before.

Painting the shroud would look great but I think it would look even better painting the bezel along with the shroud.

I did think about painting the bezel to match my car, but I've seen that done several times and it doesn't look too good. My car is white, and painting the bezels white gets rid of the contrast that the black brings to the headlights. If you don't have any contrast, it looks pretty weird. I'll see if I can dig up a few pictures from people who've done that.

If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to PM me.

There's no way you're going to get the projector to sit back any further in the housing; there's just not enough room for it. The depth of the projectors I used are pretty close to other projectors out there. When looking at ballasts, you don't want one with the ignitor separate from the ballast as you'll have even less room, if it'll even work. Look for ballasts with built-in ignitors.

You're too funny man, seriously. :D I've not gone into a thread and said someone's work looks stupid. Wait, I think I did post in the "shrek ears" / "bicycle" mirrors thread. I think everyone did. LOL. Also, you said projectors don't look good in our cars. It's funny that you're recanting your statement now by saying "I just don't like that style". Like I said, too damn funny.

i can usually tackle anything i put my mind to but all this seems really high tech, lol. but is the reason you cant set them back further because of the metal support behnd the headlight?? i wonder if ther is more room between the 1st and second gen

I never said projectors in general.

I could care less about JWerner's opinion. LOL.

You could paint the shroud, but the bottom half of the bowl that sticks through must remain chrome on that specific projector, as light reflects off of it to give it it's extra width. So it'd look pretty funny painted half-way like that. LOL

Someone did mention the fact that the projector looks like it sits up high, and that's the one thing I didn't like about this projector, but there's no other way to mount it. That's just the way that projector is designed since it uses the lower reflector bowl to achieve it's width. It (LS430) and the LS460 projectors are the only ones out there that use a lower reflector bowl design like that; all other projectors only have light emitted through the lens. I could have gone with a different projector, but this is the best projector out there right now.

I could photoshop something for you. What picture did you want me to use?

Oh, no, I wasn't saying you in particular couldn't handle it. :) I was just saying that there's no room because of the radiator support behind the headlight. I suppose if you could cut it completely out behind the headlights and then do some major welding to re-stabilize it, then that might work. I don't think I could tackle that one myself. LOL. But, one thing to keep in mind with a projector retrofit is that you want to get the projector lens as close to the headlight lens as possible.

Not sure about the room difference between 1st and 2nd gens, but I'd think they'd be the same in that area.

straight on shot thanks

OK, my Photoshop skills are a bit rusty, but here's what I came up with.

This shows why I wouldn't suggest painting the bezel the same color as the car, as the contrast from the black is now gone. It also makes it look really bug-eyed. But again, it was a quick Photoshop, and everyone has different tastes. :D

Here's a picture of the shroud (before trimming to fit):

100_3040.jpg

That open part is where the bottom part of the projector bowl sticks through, and it cannot be painted. So, it might look at little weird to paint the shroud, and have that lower part still chrome (a case where there'd be too much contrast :)). That would only be a problem with this specific projector (and the LS460).

Sorry, never saw this post. My responses to you were just because I assumed you were trying to get into it with me as you've done several times in other threads. My comment about the 20" rims probably pissed people off, but that's just my opinion. I was steamed about lincoln00's post, because even though I may not think that something someone does looks good to me, I've got enough respect for them not to post in their thread and say it looks stupid (as lincoln00 did).

And I do agree with you about them sitting too high in the bezel, that's the one thing I didn't like about it when I was done. But, it was sort of a trade-off because I really wanted to use those projectors because of their performance.

you got me good there didnt you... LOL I think maybe with some bloak paint it would look better... but i still wouldnt like it... It doesnt look Foctory clean.. you can tell its been made to have it.. I think to do those on the LS the hole in tire head light needs to be changed!

OEM would not make it look like that.. they would have designed the front end around that light... it looks :q:q:q:qty!

oh but any other muffler is OK... just not the glass pack right... go :q:q:q:q your self! with your projector beams!

Yup. That's just the response I'd expect out of an immature prick like yourself. Have fun ricing out your LS! While you're at it you might want to take an English class; reading your posts is quite painful. "Foctory" ... "in tire head light".
