Ok what chip will get me the best bang for my ever shrinking buck

Putting the car on the dyno will get every last HP out of it. If you have a reputable tuner near you talk to them. This route can be considerably more expensive then a "mail order" premade tune depending on who you have available in your area. Any good tune will get you better mileage if you drive accordingly(i.e. if you don't keep your right foot in it).

As far as customer support like I said if you have a tuner close enough to you go talk to them. If not or it's cost prohibitive I would go through a reputable "mail order" place like Lonnie at BOC or Geno at LMS

The "Chip" doesn't do anything, its the programming on that chip that does the work lol...

You have two options, mail order tune, or finding a local shop that can dyno tune your car. I would recommend the latter to anyone who can afford it or has a shop that can tune a Mark locally.

What most people fail to realize is that peak hp and torque has absolutely nothing to do with a car being fast or having good driving manners...

Peak horsepower and torque has almost everything to do with how the car performs. You can have a 700 horsepower Supra which only makes power starting from 6000rpm completely destroy a 454 big block Chevelle which has 600 ft lbs of torque at 3000rpm. It is true that if you have two cars with very similar power levels you will want the car with the most power under the curve but there's a lot of other elements to look at as well.

For a mostly stock Mark VIII there is nothing wrong with just getting a chip. I would get an SCT chip from Lonnie or Torrie. You don't need to spend 500 bucks on a dynotune.

Peak horse power and torque don't do you a dang bit of good if your trans shifts stupid.... or if the first bad tank of gas you get makes your car knock like hell...

Yeah I kinda figured that, I'm not an idiot, please don't address me as if I am. If you can't plug a programer into it, then it would require what is commonly referred to as a "Chip" to alter the tune. I asked because I trust that people who had these cars longer than me would know more.

If I really want to go fast in a straight line I just drive my 10 second 65 F100.

If I am going to have a Luxo Cruiser it needs to fun to drive, that's all

Thanks for an honest answer w/o all the sarcastic BS

At this time I'm not wanting to invest $ in a full blown dyno tune, besides there aren't any shops in my area that can handle it

I don't know what you do and don't know, how am I suposed to know your not a 16 year old kid who has some buddies that told him to get chip for his car to go way fast... I dislike the word Chip to refer to new a new tune or programing for a car, but I don't think we really need to argue such trivial matters.

I have heard good things about Torrie... I wouldn't recommend Blue Oval Chips just because I don't think the customer service is up to par.

It shouldn't matter if I was 16 or 60. Like it or not "Chip" is the commonly accepted term for it, sorry

No problem man... tuning is very very crucial to have a good running performing vehicle, I hate to see people get bad tunes and be plagued by poor performance.

I have heard good things about Torrie as well. I have dealt with Lonnie at BOC and haven't had any customer servies issues. The one time he didn't get back to me within 24 hours was during his long distance move. Can't blame the guy for that.

A while back I had a couple of questions about a tune from BOC... got a response a month or so later... lol

Now I've moved on and decided to get a prp for my cars and tune my own stuff.
