So yesterday, NickT and I installed my 'new' AVIC-D3:

Today I set out to remove those reverse glow gauges so that my tach and speedo needles would work again and also to make running down the track in GA in a few days easier:

Yes, I know there are a couple of bubbles on the tach side. I can deal with that for now. Install was pretty easy, much like tinting windows with these gauge overlays. Hardest part is lining up where the light shines through while it's still light out. Luckily I had a jacket I could put over the driver's side door and kind of put my hands over the cluster. I'll see how they look tonight at some point.

Here's the old ones - that will be out to pektel soon - that are set-up like the GenI gauges:

how hard is it to take off the needles... and do they go back on pretty easy??

Needles don't come off at all. You slide these over them. They come in two parts, the left side (tach/temp) and right side (speedo/fuel gauge). Only things that have to come off are the little black stop needles. I didn't realize that, which is why the one for the tach needle is a little mangled with those bubbles.

Damn that looks like a lot of fun . It looks good though. Navigation screens make a car look so much better.

it looks good, but if there is an aluminum gauge bezel for the LS, I could do this instead:

Here's a crappy cell phone night time picture.

Kind of hard to see the check engine, air bag and seat belt lights in the day time. That's pretty much my only gripe with them....so far.

i dont like how bright the seat belt and check engine light is anyways... ordering those today or tomorrow along with my SCT x3. thanks for finally putting them in NYC!

LOL thanks dude.

For those of you going to do this gauge overlay 'mod', that would be the time to clean that sensor that's right above the ignition cylinder! Mine was completely covered in dust.

OH, and Pete if you see this again - you want to tap off the headlight switch. The wire is blue with a yellow tracer.

Um... am I supposed to be able to see any of the gauges lit up besides the needles?

LOL...you could see the numbers on my BlackBerry if you held it at a weird angle  Didn't quite come out right. Oh well.

Oh OK :) Everyone was saying they look great. But I couldn't see any numbers. It's like The Emperor's New Gauges ;) well the daytime shots do look sharp!

Thanks! I've never done this before, so if there are any other wiring tips (that I can't get off the tech articles from either here or lsk), please let me know.

One other thing - the wires you DON'T need are wrapped in a rubber band. The two that aren't in there are the power (to the headlight switch) and a ground. Pretty simple. Oh, and you have to notch the gauge cluster. I think I took a picture of it and Ken also has documentation on it. Stuff should be on the way tomorrow.

im traying to take out my dash on a 2001 ls and im stuck, is it possible for you to do a step by step instructions to assist me on removing this dash i have to replace some instrument lights.

I want those red and blue gauges, Im guessing its not just the white face plate is it?

How much does this Mof cost?
