I figured that would get your attention.

As many of you know already, I do Ford and GM custom tuning. I have been tuning on the 3.9 LS in various configurations, from stock N/A, bolt-ons N/A, nitrous, turbocharged, swapped diffs and so on. Through the last year I have had more than a few people with the 3.0 V6 LS ask me if I could help them out with custom tuning. Well here is your chance.

First off I want to make it WELL UNDERSTOOD that this is a personal exploratory venture to help you guys out. I have no intent to do business through this thread so please do not ask about prices or anything like that. The reason I say no prices is for two reasons. First and foremost is because I am not a vendor here. Second is because what I am about to do will be free. My reasoning for doing this is because I am curious to see what I can do for the 3.0 V6 crowd. I figure I have dedicated quite a bit of time developing mods for the V8 so why not throw some love the V6 way?

I have recently decided to start custom tuning the 3.0 LS and need a few patient, willing, and serious volunteers who will be willing to test tunes that I make for their car. Be my guinea pig so to speak. You will need to already have an Xcal or Livewire flash device and know somewhat how to use it. I do not want to spend days at a time just walking someone through the basics before we even get to the meat and potatoes if ya know what I mean?

The main car(s) I would prefer to have are as follows:

Gen1 Auto tranny 3.0 LS bone stock
Gen1 Auto tranny 3.0 LS w/ CAI

If you are a Gen2 3.0 guy then let me know though I plan to start small and leave the TBW alone for now until other parts of the tune are established.

If you fit into the categories that I mentioned above then shoot me a PM and we can go over the details of how things will work. Thanks.

Damn, no love for the manual tranny! If you ever decide to try it, I'll submit my ride as test mule.

I see a couple issues with your advertisement:

If someone already has the Xcal for their 3.0L v6 LS then wouldn't they already have a tune?
I know there are a couple of 6-ers that have tunes from Torrie. (I will not say anything about each tuner's ability since I have not had the chance to deal with either of you.)
Why would you need to steer clear of the Gen2 TBW and vcti? Is it really that much different than the Gen2 v8?

I know I have wanted the TBW to be more responsive in my 04 v6. That would be the primary reason I would get a custom tune.... well it would be one of the reasons (shift points, performance, economy).

Are you asking someone who already has a tunned Gen1 v6 to let you experiment with the tuning of their car to improve your knowledge? Would you be offering dyno time with the tune or how would you evaluate the results?

It is not an advertisement so much as a simple offer to people who want better and more developed tuning for their V6 LS.

Some people have an Xcal laying around from another vehicle that they aren't currently using. Some people know a buddy in the same situation and might just have picked one up used from them or elsewhere. How they have come into possession of an Xcal unit is not really an issue.

My intent is to not steering clear of anything. I want to do the tuning in a methodical approach. One step at a time so that nothing is missed or forgotten about. It makes for a MUCH higher quality end result. I could easily whip up a tune for the V6'ers that most would probably like quite a bit, just off the cuff. However, I feel more comfortable when I have fully tested it first so that I know things are proper from not only a performance standpoint but also safety too. Other tuners sometimes do not do that.

I wouldn't need to offer this stuff to someone that is already tuned. It would defeat the purpose. My reasoning for doing this is to help you V6'ers out a little bit with doing more development on the V6 LS tuning. The tuning will be remote only; unless someone local to me popped up. There will not really be dyno time needed because the cars are bound to be stock or near stock and this is just the development of a canned tune. If I were to do something along the lines of a full dyno tune then it would only be in person so I could log the vehicle myself. The person(s) who decide they want to take me up on my offer will have to test certain things as WOT shift point preferences, shift firmness, SOTP power gain, how responsive the car seems after tune, verification of no spark knock, and so on. For someone who knows their way around a car but does not know quite how to tune it themselves this is a good opportunity.

I have had quite a few inquiries in the last years asking if I could help the V6 crowd. Up till now I have only developed, or refined, performance items for the V8 LS crowd. Might as well move onto the 3.0 V6 LS...

PM me. We might be able to work on testing something for you. I want to play with the auto tranny LS's first because they have it worse than you manual guys when it comes to shifting and overall transmission response.

I understand exactly what you're saying... it's like trouble shooting... You address one thing at a time; when you address multiple things, you don't know what each individual change is doing.

i am really interested in this, i am getting tired of being beat by scion tc's. What do i have to do, and what if something goes wrong? will i be stuck with the bill? I am not trying to be a P.I.T.A, i just have questions.

Thanks for the clarification Robert. I appreciate the additional info.

I have strong desires to have some improvements done on my car but it will have to wait. Right now it is my daily driver and not paid off.... Once it is paid I will likely not trade it in but keep it. I'm still looking forward to the BDT that Shiloh has been working on (I'm sure that will require an extensive tune). Keep us (6-ers) informed as to your progress.

BTW Is there any negative implications to tuning a car that is high in mileage (+100k)??

Thanks,
Nate

Bingo! ;)

I have a few people interested in this so we will see what we can come up with. ;)

Suuuuuuuuup?!?!?!?

SO.....Ills.....What did u come up with??!?:p I want a tune too! Ok, I think You need all the mods we did to our ryde before you tune it right?!? Sooo, I have a CAI.....Now Say....U do do a tune for the V6.....and I want it, and I GET IT......Will it mess it up If I got Magnaflows after it? Or should I get the Magnaflows 1st.....Then your tune!?!??! Me dunno! LoL
Please, any light shed on this subject will be much appreciated! :D
Thanx in advance yo!
-JJ

testing has begun. info will be up soon. and it wont be long before a turboed 6er shows up. :shifty:

Like Tom said, it is in its initial stages (aka started today). First test drive is more or less in progress. To get things dialed in properly for this initial run it will probably take a few test tunes. When tuning something for the first time, especially when not in person, it will take a little doing to get it all dialed in and experience the final results. So far from initial feedback it seems that the outlook is good.

As for the turbo V6...that is all Tom's baby right there. It sounds like a real cool project and I am looking forward to seeing what the results are!

I am still looking for someone with a Gen1 LS V6 w/ Auto tranny. You need to have your own Xcal or Livewire unit and also need to know how to load tunes onto it from your computer. Someone who is experienced with performance cars is a must as well. If you fit into this category then PM me with a reply letting me know how you match what I am looking for. Thanks.

AAwwwwwww........I am a GEN2 V6 auto.......soooo if u dont need me....that means XxbmxlsxX is probably a Gen2..... :D which is good, cuz yall workin on it already! So wats the skinny on it? what u got on my Forty??? I need my MPG! hahaha......need better shift points! Need more power!!!! LoL.....But for reals... Anything yet??? :D and XxbmxlsxX..... U doing a one off Turbo? or you designing a Turbo Kit that you will sell?!?!?!? hhhmmmmmmmm???????

Please don't take this the wrong way....but if you talk in a manner in which I can understand then I would be able to better reply back to your posts.

Bmx's car is a Gen 1 manual. I do still have plans to test on the Gen 2 V6 auto as well. As I said before, there is a certain criteria of person I am looking for though. I want to tune the vehicle and have the person test it very thoroughly. I don't want to waste time running them through the basics before even getting to the real stuff. If you fit this then shoot me a PM. If not then sit back and wait a while till the testing is done and maybe then something will be available for you.

Remember guys and girls, this is not a free for all. You must at least have some knowledge and car diagnosis ability before I test on your car. Otherwise I am just testing blind and wasting my time and yours.

so far gains are noticeable. more files to test. weather here in st. louis is crappy. hopefully will get some more baselines for realworld comparisons. as of the first tune he sent the car clocked a 6.2 0-60 which is well over a second faster than stock(according to motor trends testing). my car has a true cold air i made and custom exhaust, and a modified flywheel setup. but also 19 inch wheels with little hard tires not the best for launches. am trying with stock wheels now. he is working on low end power to overcome the intake manifold runner control that kicks in at around 3500rpms or so(i may even try removing it). new tune feels more responsive when staying in gear just passing people.

the turbo will be a one off rear mount. not to difficult to setup yourself.

Post some pics of the turbo setup when you get to it if you can!

Please keep this thread on topic. If you want to make a request of someone it would be best to PM that individual instead of taking a thread off topic. Thank you. :)
