The Republican National Committee spent about $150,000 on clothing, hair styling, makeup and other "campaign accessories" in September for the McCain campaign after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin joined the ticket as his running mate.

And you guys want me to believe McCain will be fiscally conservative if elected?

.

You mean Palin is just an middle-class American who can’t afford expensive clothes on her own? You mean she’s not a multimillionaire like the rest of them? You mean she didn’t betray the public trust in Alaska with all that oil money sloshing around to enrich herself?

What did Obama spend on the Barackopolis, $140,000? I guess that's okay though. Same for Michelle Obama staying in the Waldorf and ordering champagne and Iranian caviar. Nothing to see here, just move on folks.

By the way, she won't keep the wardrobe. The RNC will donate it to charity. That's how this works.

Idiots.

Right, because poor people need designer outfits.

They (republicans) are idiots sometimes, I agree.

The washington post had an interesting comment:

How do you sell someone as a no-frills hockey mom who sold the state plane, fired the official cook and turned down travel per diems for her family and then try to explain wardrobing her in clothes from Neiman Marcus -- a store occasionally referred to by aggrieved, frugal shoppers as Needless Markup? How do you, in barely two months, lavish her with fashion swag worthy of a starlet and valued at more than her annual governor's salary of $125,000?

I stand by my statement. This is much ado about nothing, especially in comparison to the lavish excesses that the Obama campaign has indulged in, which the Post has notably ignored.

I guess some people can do nothing right no matter what, according to you.

I think it is great that they spent that money on her. Less for airtime.

But, in reality - the personal appearance consultants for both campaigns spend a lot of money on their employers. I would imagine Obama's suit bill is really high. However I would hope that McCain's suit bill isn't too much... He could use a better tailor...;)

In all seriousness, I think the way the suits are tailored are in an effort to hide some of his war injuries.

They used to do a better job of that - with the longer/slightly wider lapels and somewhat shorter length on his jackets.

Lately I have seen him with shorter/narrower lapels and longer jackets - they don't look as good on him. They have a tendency to accent the horrendous POW injuries he had inflicted on his shoulders and arms. Although, that also could be on purpose, a subtle reminder of the service he has given this country.

I really don't put anything beyond campaign handlers...

I think they're actually covering those shoulder injuries, making him look stockier. When you're shoulders are shot, they atrophy in a very distinct way, faster than everything else.

Where the hell does all these campaign donations go anyway? What are they supposed to be used for except putting on a good show for the potential voters, whether it be at rallies, commercials or whatever? Can anyone explain this to me?

Probably, and I'll give him that one without question.

But really, $150k on Palin? You dont think that's a bit much?

Jeez Joey, is this all you've got to bring to the table today? Are you so bored? What will be Biden's gaff of the day? Hey, forget that, let's talk about reality....that being, how a smart guy like you could conceivably vote for a guy who for twenty years attended the Church of a racist, American hating Pastor. How does one attend a Church like this for so long and then say he knew absolutely nothing of it? I could ignore a lot of things about Obama as stated in the media, but this single fact speaks volumes about what this man really is. I’ve yet to hear a left-winger justify this. Why don’t you give it a go?

Obama has been quoted as saying he attended 11:00 service every Sunday.

Simple explanation, really.

Joey is a very angry person. He blames all his business and economic troubles on Bush and the Republicans, and he wants to see them pay. He's taking out his personal frustrations on political figures, and thus nothing they ever do is right.

I don't know how much Hillary or Obama spent on wardrope. Probably less, but they also don't have two adults, five children, and a "fiance" to dress either.

This is such a ridiculous story, because if she were getting dressed by Walmart, as the liberal bloggers shout, she'd be ravaged by the press for looking bad. And then I'm sure there's be five days of front page coverage in the times over the fact her clothes were made in China.

Clearly, it's a bit indulgent, but let's also remember, THEY HAVE PUT THIS WOMAN"S FAMILY THROUGH HELL. So maybe that helped the mood a bit while every private detail of the family and children's lives were invade.

It's also said their going to eventually donate all of the clothes to the needy.

And...$5,300,000... that's how much the DNC spent so that Obama could give his snooze worthy speech at Invesco Field. That's ontop of the standard $14,000,000 they spent for the rest of the convention. I don't know Britney Spear's stage director spent of the columns alone.

She the one that said yes.
She didn't know that she would be under a microscope ?
It happens to every VP candidate.
The nasty libs have been doing it forever right ?
Does she live in a cave up there eh ?

Final bill on the Barackopolis: $5.3 million

Keep this figure in mind when people claim that the $150,000 the RNC spent on Sarah Palin’s wardrobe represents some kind of frivolity. At least she’s going to wear the clothes more than once, and it may raise some decent funds for charity at the end of the campaign. The Democrats spent an additional $5.3 million on the Barackopolis at Invesco Field, after spending over $14 million to outfit the Pepsi Center:

In its FEC filing, the host committee said it incurred $53.67 million in operating expenses and spent $53.86 million.

Most of that money went to pay expenses of the Democratic National Convention Committee, the party organization that staged the DNC. Nine percent of the host committee’s money went to pay its own expenses, which included salaries, marketing and staging various events off the convention grounds.

Convention expenses paid by the committee included $14.1 million for construction costs, including the stage and lighting, at the Pepsi Center and $5.3 million at Invesco Field.

The host committee had several fundraising shortfalls before the convention, but managed to eventually outstrip their goals — and they needed every penny. The original $40 million estimate bloated out to over $53 million, thanks to poor planning and the change in venue on the last night. Barack Obama’s efforts to woo special interests did the trick in covering the bill.
Under those circumstances, the extra $5.3 million for the vanity platform at Invesco seems like a strange and very frivolous spending choice. Obama could have given the same (uninspiring) speech at the Pepsi Center and saved millions of dollars. This isn’t the same as buying a wardrobe for a candidate who lacked one; Democrats had already spent almost $15 million on the Pepsi Center. Obama had a perfectly good stage on which to accept his nomination and demanded another for his own ego.

Will all of the media outlets who rushed to expose the $150,000 wardrobe cost for a middle-class VP candidate report on the millions spent to feed Barack Obama’s grandeur?

It is laughable that the liberal, in the tank media is focusing on this $150,000 while the cash-rich Obama campaign has spent so much on the lavish venues at the Democratic convention, plus the obscene amount of money spent on ads nationally-

this is the same person who pledged he'd use federal funds and then changed his mind (there's a surprise) while McCain did what he said he'd do-campaign on federal funds.

All those big-ticket contributors will have to be paid, one way or another if Barry wins-after all what is the point of greasing the skids if you aren't getting paid eventually?

Keep drinking that Kool-aid, Obamabots, you are all destined to cling to your canceled checks and high-jacked credit card accounts while Barry disappears to Hawaii to nurse his newly-found Grandmommy back (how lucky could he be?) to near death, while he rips apart the attic in search of documents that are meant to be lost.

Idiots, too kind a word. A sucker born every minute...:D

Well said, sir. You have a way with words.
