Will spokes stick out?

This is just a thought... I was thinking about getting 18 or 20 inch wire spoke rims with low profile tires... I've sen these rims on several cars and I personally think that they look good on some... there are other cars that have them sticking out about and inch from the fender and gives them that "steamroller" look... I don't like the way that looks... I want to know if that would be the case with a mark... also does anyone know if wire spoke rims will tuck if I happen to lay out my mark 8? if anyone has pictures can you ost them on a reply... thank you for any help...
 
Thats going to depend on thw width of the rims & tires, not the diameter. I agree - the steamroller look doesnt impress me either.
 
There are 3 different ways to order these rims... reversed-which is the way the lowriders usually buy them, this also make the dish of the rim look deep... standard-which gives the rima about an inch from where the spokes are connected to the edge of the rim (these are the ones that i want)... and there are fron wheel drive which makes it seem like there is no dish, and the spokes connect to the edge of the rim... i'm not sure how to post pictures of these... i will if I find out how...

I have had those wheels before and they are a pain. Hard to keep clean and they are dangerous. The hub nut loosens over time so you need to keep checking the nut so they dont fall off while driving. I know several people who have had this happen including me. GOOD LUCK with them.
 
I know several people with spokes. I'm not sure about the mark but it would seem that after the adapter is installed that in it self will set the wheel out a bit more. We put a set on my friends van, While down in Laughlin, NV one weekend one of the freaking wheels fell off & smashed up the bottom of his van. It was user error, but even so they can be dangerous if not checked fairly often.

You also have to find 5x108 adapters as well.

It all depends on the width and offset of the rims, and if you keep the tire similar sized to the stock ones too...

I wouldn't use adapters if it comes down to it, I've seen them crack, and also make the rims come loose before. Find a rim in the right size bolt pattern etc or don't bother, imho...

You have to use adapters! thats how they bolt on. You bolt the adapter on, slide the wheel over it & tighten everything down with the single large center nut by putting a wrench on it & hitting it with a lead hammer.
 
I'd forgotten what they were like. They are rarely seen up here. I've seen two sets in my life. I'll edit my post .
 
Wire wheels are EXTREMELY hard to keep clean. When I bought my first mark 6 years ago that what i originally wanted but someone talked me out of the because of the maintanence.

You aren't lying, Wires are VERY hard to keep clean & since they are steel with a chrome coating they will eventually rust. They look nice when they are clean though.:)
 
Another down side to wires is the fact that they are heavy as hell. The added weight is hard on brakes and gas milage. So other than being cheap in the beginning as far as price they will cost more in the long run. Like i said before GOOD LUCK with them!!!
 
I watched a cheap set of wires fold over as a kid in my high school was going around a corner... funniest thing I have ever seen!

Well there are 2 different type of spoked wheels,
Type 1- They have lug nuts and are car specific
Type 2- Race car style

The type 2 is critical that you install them backwards, so that you slow down the knock-off will tighten up and wont cause the wheel to pass you at a light. thats where 9 out 10 people that have problems with spokes have them. if you install them the correct way everytime you hit the brakes they loosen up a little bit (hope that makes sense)

as far as sticking out, you need to have FWD offset. Im using a 19x10 +44 and they tuck nice and neat.
 
The ones he posted a pic of were a universal style that requires an adapter. These are the most common now a days. I don't even see the old school McLean's any more that had an actually bolt pattern.

The adapters are colored. 2 Red & 2 white so you shouldn't be able to mess it up, but as always user error happens!

They can be neat looking wheels if you put the correct style of tire on it, not one of those little skinny tires with a white wall that the low riders use. I think something like a 245/40/18 for example would look good as opposed to a 185/75/14 with a white wall that would look like crap. The only tires that I like with a white wall are Vogue's, now they are sexy.
