02 Lse V8

Hey, I just got a 2002 LSE V8 for about 10k as a graduation / 18th b-day present last monday.

This is the most amazing car I've ever driven, I drove a 200 Voyager for a year and a hlf before this haha.

The only thing that I want to change with this car is:

1: Remove the Rev limiter

2: Change exhaust tips (easy as they are just clamped on yay!)

Is the process of removing the rev limiter possible? easy? take a lot of time? special tools?

Any info on this would be great!

Removing the rev limiter is easy, just costs money, lol. You will need a tuning device, most as do I have the Xcal2 some have the Xcal3. This will get rid of the limiter and more.

Not to send a new member on a search but this has been discussed alot so a search will answer many questions.
 
And the tips while easy to remove you will have a fairly hard time finding one to fit. The stock ones kinda have a odd offset to them. I found mine to hang low so I shortened up the hangers and they look way better.

Alright, I'm going to look for a friend or someone with a tuner, I think my uncle has one.

After that, is there something I should look for? I don't really get how a tuner works.

I'm guessing it's just a bunch of boolean questions like

revlimit 1 etc...
 
im not certain, but i believe the generic tuners will not work with the ls. i believe you need this xcal.

and even worse, you cant even buy a used one unless the previous owner put their car back to the stock tune (well, i guess you can buy it but wont be able to use it).

If you want to have a custom tune, than XCal is your only option. No performance chip. Maybe there are small things they can change at the dealership, but not what you want done (at least I don't think they will do that for you). The dealership should be able to do the things like speedometer recalibration for different sized wheels or something, but not something that would potentially damage an engine. They don't want the liability.

I believe you can still use an Xcal if the previous owner didn't return to stock tune, but it costs money to unlock it, it can only be done a certain number of times to a unit, and the previous owner's stock tune becomes lost forever.

PM ILLS on here for the best tune.
 
the LSE tips are great. You SURE you want to change them? the quad look is nicely aggressive..without being too "ricer".

and this xcal is like, more than $150 isnt it?

I kinda like the quad tips now, I got used to them, although, I'm getting the MagnaFlow exhaust kit so, I'll try to keep them and maybe sell em to one of you guys
 
Brand new XCal unit with 2 tunes and excellent after the sale support would run you more in the neighborhood of 400.
 
Alright cool, thanks guys, also, what brand of exhaust do you guys recommend? I hear a lot about Borla being really good, but I really don't want to pay more than say $500 or max is $600, because anymore than that and I can't afford new tires for winter >.<

And do you think it would be cheaper to buy a kit online? or have ABRA or a NAPA service center do it?
 
Install it yourself if you buy a kit. I saw a couple of full magnaflow kits for cheap on ebay, which is what I have. I got mine for $500 shipped but haven't seen them quite that cheap since.

So, when you stated 3 tunes+ stock tune, that is the same as Torrie. I thought you were referencing him.

If you would have disclosed the fact that you were a tuner, I wouldn't have phrased my statement the way I did.

I not a tuner and I do have my tunes from Torrie as stated in my signature.
 
Oops. my mistake.

In that case, from what other members have said, they prefer ILLS's tunes. Seems to be better all around. Better response, better shifts, etc. Some items are also left open for more end user adjustment. I'm hoping some of them will chime in, since there are members on here who had torrie's tunes, then got one from ILLS to compare.
 
ILLS / Torries? I'm so confused haha, I'm trying desperately to get into this with you guys, but when I catch up, you pull out more LVC lingo...... :(

I assume Torrie is someone on the forum and ILLS is like a company or group that does car tuning??

other way around, actually :D

ILLS is a member on here. his name is Rob. He owns KBX Performance. Torrie works for fastpartsnetwork.com.

Both have excellent customer service. It just seems that one writes better tunes than the other.
 
Rob (ILLS) had a 05 V8 up until just recently and spend many hours tweaking his Gen2 tunes. Many are happy with them, I believe the tip in is a great improvement over stock TBW responsiveness. At least thats what people seem to say.

He did my tunes for my Gen1 also, they work very well. We may meet up soon to tweak them also but I would say that they are great as is. My 4.10 gearing may allow my tune to get slightly more aggressive but being the only one on 4.10s I doubt that will affect his tuning for others much.
 
Torrie is a member on this form he owns Unleashed Tuning and is SCT XCal & Livewire Dealer.

Both ILLS and Torrie (Tmcphail) have experience tunning Lincoln LS, both will get you to where you want to be, with either tuner you need to covey you expectations and your particular modification and communicate how your tunes are working. Both have excellent after the sale support.
 
I've already voiced my opinion on the two known tuners for the LS guys in another thread. Search for it if you want, but I'm not getting into a pissing match..........again.

SO I found a few XCAL2's online for $385..... looking into this a little more, for that kind of cash, I can deal with the rev limiter for now, unless I can find someone nearby who already has one.

Say I did find someone who uses it for a different vehicle, what do I need for it to tune my LS? (2002 LSE V8)
