The Palin Obama Pig Thread

I think I will sort of gloss over Bob Beckel's pig point - we were talking Obama's particular pig statement -

Obama did play the race card at the end of July - inadvisably so - and since has dropped this point, because, obviously it is false - McCain will not be saying anything about race in this campaign.

Yes, Biden and Obama voted for the Bridge - a Bridge that was supported by Palin - and she did keep the money. It is still earmarked funds ending up in Alaska. Now, if she had given the money back - I would be impressed.

You may point out and say that Alaska needs funds because of its 'new state' status - no go - I say Chicago alone needs it because parts of it looks like bomb zones in third world countries. It's infrastructure is decaying and falling apart - it has an extremely high rate of unemployment. Both states have need -

But, in reality, we need to find another way to get these funds to areas that need it - in an honest, open path. Like McCain's (see I am trying to give you a point here - just take it, smirk if necessary).

Palin may have cut earmarks requests by 1/2 last year - but the state still got almost 200 million dollars. Twice what Obama got in a state with 25 times the population of Alaska.

As I stated before - her record on this subject, starting with her tenure as mayor through her current stint as governor is far from clean - let McCain handle this subject...

And, if my phone work this evening even comes close to the pulse of America (calling undecided and Republican voters) no one believes Obama was referring to Palin, even within the ranks of the right. I still think that this could come back and get them. If she can't see that this is just a turn of phrase - or that it is a joke about her pit bull joke, her skin needs to be a lot thicker - especially if (horrors of horrors) she ends up as Vice President - it will get a whole lot worse. Hockey moms say far worse things about opposing teams hockey moms across the ice every game.

Perhaps a joke a'la 'sisterhood of the traveling pantsuit' wouldn't hurt.

Go Broncos - woo hoo - and the look on Al Davis as the Broncos ran up the score Monday night - priceless
 
Lipstick and Pigs

I've had a little time to consider the lipstick---pig thing and both my own immediate reaction and all the whoop-de-doo since.

First, once Mrs. Palin used the Hockey Mom---Pit Bull line to such overwhelming positiveness, it should be acknowledged by EVERYONE that she owns the line and the words in it, no matter who might have said it before. That Obama doesn't recognize the connection, and then goes on to use the words he did, with the emphasis he used, mostly shows that he's not very fast on his feet. But then we already knew that, didn't we, from his reliance on teleprompters. He just isn't very swift. or maybe, 'His elevator doesn't go clear to the penthouse'.

Whether the "lipstick" concept is stuck in his head, I have no idea. But the "pig" line is a cliche, and often a crutch when speaking in public.

Why would he intentionally call her a pig or try to make the implication? It makes absolutely no sense. I seriously doubt he was trying to draw THAT kind of association. He may have been unconsciously linking the lipstick with Palin and connecting that with what he perceives as the policies of the past, but that's the end of the association.

I do think the audience drew the connection though when he said it, based upon the way the reacted to it And- it's that kind of hate that I think you see reflected in the Beckel clip. He is a bitter, hateful, blowhard, hack. The netkooks and the bitter left will take shots and call her all kinds of names, they are. But I think we sound silly making a mountain out of this non-event. I hope McCain and Palin steer cleer of this entire silliness.

But now he's brought up the muslim angle. He's accusing McCain of calling him a muslim in his speeches now. So you see, it's just moving from one false canard to another. Bravo, Obama, you've mastered the cycling straw dog argument.

Again, I never said Palin was squeaky clean on earmarks LIKE MCCAIN IS. I did say that Obama is the LAST person who should be criticizing her for it. Doing so only exposes his glass house.

And your admission that Chicago is a freaking urban disaster is not only a monument to the glaring deficiency that is the Chicago Mayor Richard Daley Democrat Machine, but also to the pitiful community organizing skills of Obama. Not to mention the old, tired premise that throwing more money at a problem ($1 billion not enough?) will somehow magically fix it. New Orleans ring a bell? Who's been in charge of that city for 40 years? (Hint: It's not Republicans)

Where did you see any reaction from Palin? All I see is reaction from the news and the blogosphere, and a statement from the McCain campaign. If you are going to attribute the reaction of ordinary Americans to Palin, then you must also attribute the reaction of the audience to Obama. Besides, he NEVER dissuaded them from mocking Sarah. That's very telling.

As far as thin skinned...don't make me laugh. I've never seen a politician as thin skinned as Obama. The man not only bleats and cries about every little thing said about him, he also whines about things that aren't said about him. Not only could he become the first black president, he could become the first victim president. Do you really want me to list all his whines and stand them up side by side to Palin?
 
I thought the comment he made was actually kind of humorous. Mostly because it makes him look stupid. The rest because it is kinda funny if you think about lipstick on a pig. :p

Same goes for the fish wrapped up in change paper still stinks. He shouldn't talk about himself like that! He'll make his wife jealous... :shifty:

When the McCain campaign mind whines about imaginary victims, themeselves, rages against imaginary villains, the Obamas, and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, demands apology, the neurosis of the McCain mind becomes painfully obvious."

People I'm joking. This whole thing is blown out of proportion and Palin should take her own advice and push through this and not acknowledge it. At a minimum she should direct her campaign not to whine so much about it.

Pointing out a double standard is not the same thing as whining.

You don't need to list all of them, just one and then please differentiate between his instance and the McCain campaigns perceived whining, so that I might understand what is whining and what is not.

Obama said, in three different speeches, that the McCain campaign was attacking or was going to attack Obama over his race. Never happened. That was made up. Then Obama cried about Palin's community organizer comment, which was in reality a comeback designed to put his belittlement of her tenure as Mayor into perspective. He took it personally, even going so far as to generalize her comment to mean that she was attacking community organizers all across the country. This couldn't be further from the truth, and I'm sure Obama knew that, or else he's really obtuse.

Now Democrat strategists are trying to conflate her community organizer comment with a racial code, as though she was attacking black people in general. This is all acceptable behavior, however, as I have yet to see one liberal on this forum or one media person acknowledge the pettiness and immaturity of that behavior.

Meanwhile, Obama, knowing that Palin has recently made a very popular and widely known lipstick remark, makes the pig comment, and then says, "Wha- me?" in feigned innocence.

So it's okay for him to misinterpret and even conjure up smears, whining and crying all the way about these imagined attacks, but when he actually does it to Palin and gets called out for his hypocrisy, it's whining.

That's to say nothing of his supposed "new tone" in politics.

Have you seen his new ad where he attacks McCain for not being computer literate? Yeah, he's really taking the high road now.

I don't see how this is any different than what the McCain campaign is doing.

McCain campaign cries about the lipstick on a pig comment, which in reality is just a common phrase used by politicians to point out that underlying issues are still applicable. Obama said his comment was meant to compare the policies of McCain to those of President Bush, and was in no way a reference to Republican vice presidential Sarah Palin. The McCain campaign took it personally, even going so far as to releasing a video and using Katie Couric. On Wednesday, the Republican National Committee and McCain’s campaign released a Web ad seeking to exploit Obama’s use of an expression about dressing up a pig with lipstick, which the GOP claims was a sexist attack on Palin. This couldn't be further from the truth,

“John McCain says he’s about change, too, and so I guess his whole angle is, ‘Watch out George Bush.’ Except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics … That’s not change. That’s just calling something the same thing, something different,” Obama said.

“But you know … you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. You know, you can … wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change, it’s still going to stink after eight years,” he added.

If you call what Barack does whining, then you must call what the McCain is doing whining. If the shoe fits and it walks like a duck, you must not acquit.
 
It is pretty obvious that the "lipstick on a pig" was ment as a swipe at Palin in some fashion, considering her recent speech, and the audience's response; unless Obama is really that foolish, in which case he has no place as the Democratic presidential nominiee...

I see no need to completely rehash the arguments we've already had on this subject. You disagree, bully for you. I've answered your question, and I stand by my statement. Obama was whining, and he's benefiting from a double standard. I will also reiterate that that juicy comment that Obama used prior to the lipstick comment was plagiarized.

That said, I do think McCain needs to avoid the victim theme in his ads from now on.

maybe on this one you're right. I took your comment as being a response to my post just above yours. looking at it now, maybe it wasn't and you were posting your thoughts on a different subject. my bad.

BTW, my statement wasn't trying to invalidate your argument. I thought your statement was trying to invalidate mine. I agree with you, I think it was a swipe at Palin. I don't think he was calling her a pig necessarily, but I felt he was referencing her pitbull comment. The audience though, may have taken it a bit further.
