did the 04 have the sport model or did they remove the chrome for the gen 2..

I notice me 2000 lincoln handles a little better and rides stiffer... was think if they didnt make a sport in the gen 2 i might use the sway bars of the 2000.

AND has anyone done the gen 1 3.58 gears in there 2004 gen 2... did it reallly wake it up...

I found a review on google.. says the 2004 gen 2 has a 0-60 time of 6.96 seconds... is the 03 with the 3.58 gears faster with the same 280hp and 286 trq???

Don't know the other answers, but yes the 04 did have the sport model option available. I have one.

In the 2nd Gen LSes, "Sport" was a trim level; almost all of the 2nd Gen V8s had the "sport" suspension (and almost none of the 2nd Gen V6es had it, IIRC). If the '04 has the SST shifter, it almost certainly has the sport suspension. I think the bumper chrome was dropped for the 2nd Gen cars.

I have the non-Sport suspension in my '06, and it is noticeably softer than the Sport suspension my '04 had; going from the stock 16" wheels to 17" wheels helped, but it's still not a crisp on one particular curve I take regularly. I don't think the 1st Gen swaybar will work on the 2nd Gen cars, but I'm not positive about that. If you do change the bar, though, you'll need to change the shocks, as well.

so my 04 ls sport... which i know it is now... has 3.58 gears... i thought 2 gen came with 3:31's.

Here are the options for 04 Gen II LS vehicles.

The 2000 V8 sport had 3.31 gears. I can only say for sure on that one because it's what is stamped on a tag on my pumpkin. The gen 2's had 3.58's stock.

oh i remember reading a thread saying the 00-02 had the 3.58's... cool now i dont have to worry about ripping that rear out of the first gen... i'm just taking it strait to the wrecking yard!!! thanks guys! anything else other then gears and power that changed from the 2 gens... I noticed my 04 only has traction control not advance atrac... whats that about

Advancetrac is an optional feature. I think it was available for all years. My 04 and 06 both have it.

Traction Control was standard; AdvanceTrac was optional. The main difference is that AdvancTrac has a yaw sensor to sense skids, and it uses differential braking and engine power reduction to control skids.

As for the differences between the 1st and 2nd Gen LSes, there's a list around here somewhere--there were around 500 engineering changes for '03. Major changes include the addition of variable cam timing, electronic throttle control, a change from OBD-II to the CAN architecture, the addition of a THX-certified Navigation system, and a numeric keypad on the door. ;)

Some also had the chrome bumper trim,.....

Now this is a chrome bumper trim I can appreciate. IMO it still don't look as good as being void of the chrome but looks way better then the Gen 1 chrome.

Only the V6s had the chrome bumper inserts.
All the V8s had the painted ones.

I've been puzzled for a while on the way my 04 LS V8 (Sport) rides compared to my previous 01 LS V8 (Sport). The 04 feels a bit floaty and very sway-like. My 01 felt stiffer and more attached to the road and ran perfectly straight even when hitting bumps. I took it in for an alignment check and dealership didnt spot anything out of the ordinary. Dont know what else to think??? Im gonna change out the struts and see how that goes but doubt thats the problem. Anybody else has noticed this?
