ok so it might sound kinda silly, but i just would like to make sure -- is the KKM filter a dry filter? I know the recharge kit comes with oil for the filter like a K&N but my kit didn't come with any oil... just makin sure that's ok.

right... does the kkm kit not come with oil or something? definately going to need to re-check the box my kit came in because I didn't get any and i would prefer not to be flinging pounds of dust into my engine.

IIRC the KKM filter comes pre-oiled. Check yours again. I ran mine for a year before I cleaned it, at that point I had to get the filter service pack.

If you buy a "filter recharge kit" you will get the cleaning solution and the oil. They are available from Ken.

I've never oiled any of my aftermarket filters. Never had an issue. Just an FYI.

Actually I never did either. I was just answering his question. If one of my aftermarket filters got dirty I'd just blow it out with compressed air and then replace it eventually.

Yeah, it's far too easy to over oil those damn things and then gunk up the MAF sensor. Did that once, never oiled one ever again.

Its really not that hard to clean oiled filters. I dont know why you guys are trippin. Clean it, oil in up in a uniform way, then let it sit for a day. After that take a paper towel and DAB as much as you can off. I have NEVER had a problem. Also, running a Oiled type filter dry is NOT a good idea. I mean, thats how it filters.

exactly why i was asking, dry filter meant to be oiled isn't really filtering all that well. i sent a message to KKM they said it came pre oiled. it didn't really feel oiled during installation but, hey - i'll take their word for it.

if it's red it was pre-oiled. i got the K&N service kit to clean it and i do so every 6 months. it's really easy to do but make sure you do not over oil it as many members have already said. when you clean it it turns white. the spray itself is red and that's how you know it's been sprayed evenly

Who is trippin?

We answered his question and then added that over oiling can possibly lead to fouled MAF and that NYC and I haven't had problems with not re-oiling the filter.

Edit: FYI Not oiling my filter was my secret to great mpg with 87 octane
