Grrrr

I checked for codes with the XCAL. Nada. it's gotten to the point where I don't trust the car any real distance from where I live, so it's gotta go in. I should be in Chicago all next week, so I figured now would be a good time since they had it for a week last year when I brought it in.

I didn't trust mine but when my cats failed, but I made the dealer pay for a rental car and the tow to the dealership because it failed from the coils going.
If it doesn't throw any codes by the time of your trip try doing what I said bringing it in to the dealer and have them real time scan it while your driving then they can see what cylinders are misfiring.

I read in a Ford OBD-II manual that in order for a coil to throw a CEL it needs to misfire 40% of the time. Basically the coil needs to be completely dead.

Finally....after weeks of running like sh*t, the car threw a code tonight- P0356. Makes me feel better knowing that so they won't try and say it's something different. I drop it off Saturday, so we'll see if I can get them to change that leaky oil fill tube o-ring as well. Gotta love freebies. :D

See if this happens to you... I know on the letter Ford sent out to customers they would change all of the COPs and the VCGs one time, all of them once and then it'd be on us thereafter. When I actually took the car in the dealership they showed me their notice they got from Ford that said they were to only change the failing COP and the VCG, not all of them and they were only to do this once. So if another, seperate COP failed and I brought it back it'd be out of my own pocket. I got them all done for free numerous times anyway but I'm just curious to see what they say to you. I even showed them my own letter and they were dumbfounded.

Our '03's are covered up to 100,000 miles for coils.

NYC posted a letter he got a while back about this and I got the information from him a few days ago.

Yeah the letter I got and posted just said they're covered for 10/100k, nothing about replacing them all at once. If I get one coil going a year that's ok with me. I believe there's been four replaced already, 2 before I got it, so I should have all 8 replaced before the 100k since I'm at 60k now. lol

I know, I got the same letter...what I am saying is apparently the dealerships received a different letter. They printed it out and handed it to me and it said if a coil fails before the 10year 100,000 mile mark, only that specific coil is to be replaced, along with the valve cover gasket and then basically that warranty is expired after they do that unless you are still under factory warranty.

I'm not worried....I'll take my free gaskets and coils until they tell me I'm SOL. Only then will I change all the plugs and coils myself. Doing so now would be a waste of time and money. :D

I've been. The last time I had this miss/stumble/stutter I slammed on the gas to pass someone and it came on. This time it's being far more stubborn which is pissing me off.

Yes, the coils & valve cover gaskets are covered through Ford's extended 10/100k warranty (the program I posted about last year around this time when I got the letter from Ford). That's why I want the light to come on this way there's no question about what the problem was. If it wasn't for that I'd buy all new ones and change them myself.

Funny thing is the car smelled like burning plastic for months....now it doesn't and the idle/driveability is worse. Go figure.

Are all models of LS coils covered?

Just early model 2003 for some reason.

i have a 03 with 96k , an im getting some hesitation and a sligth loss of power , i got the car used so obviously i dont have the letter , does any one has it so i can print it up or something.

I got my car used, too, and got the letter last year around this time. I posted the letter here then, too. Do a search in this forum for "Program 07M07" and you should find it.
