I've got a radar detector that I have been meaning to hardwire in my LS. Has anyone done this? I was able to do it pretty easily in my other cars but I need to ask did you run the wire from the front fuse box or does it have to come from the trunk? Running it from the front would be ideal but I'm afraid it might have to come from the trunk and I would need some more wire. Any insight is appreciated.

Depends on where you mount the radar detector; I mounted mine just right of the rear view mirror and taped into the wire going to the mirror, others run a wire in the A pillar cover to the fuse box in the passenger kick panel or down the left side to the ignition switch/radio.

Try doing a search on radar detector, it has been well covered.

Thanks for the tip.....a search suggestion, how unique coming from you.

I wired mine from the mirror. I know there's a write up floating around here somewhere, and I may even have it on my computer. Let me know if you're interested. People always think it's cool that it turns on and off with the car, and it's pretty discreet where I placed it.

+1 to a tee

or you can just wire it to the back of the cigarette lighter plug

Cigarette lighter and power ports are not switched(power on all the time).

I had a 1999 Dodge Intrepid, their cigarette lighter fuse could be moved one notch to have it switched or un-switched option, nice.

I have my V1 hardwired with a concealed display, i wired in behind the dash, just used a voltage tester and found a wire that was controlled by the ignition.

I have one right under my rear view mirror. Looks clean, into the ignition.

I also placed mine under the mirror. Simply cut the wires and used 16 gauge speaker wire and ran in up towards the headliner and and over to the passenger side pillar. I was installing an after market stereo at the time so I used that for my switched power and used the ground off the wiring harness as well.

I put mine directly on the dash in the middle all the way up to the windshield. I have a silver bullet, and it has a low profile. I ran the wires down into the defrost grille and behind the passanger side AC vent. I did not want to cut the power adaptor, so I installed a 12v power port in the open space behind and under the AC vent. The power point is wired to a switched fuse in the fuse box up front. It looks/works good and took all of like 30 minutes to do. If you pop that vent off there is enough open space for a cat.

The only thing I dont like about the high mount radar detector is that its much less likely (at least in my affordable brand detector) to pick up a laser. It has no problem picking up radar from around corners and over large hills. I've thought about removing its rear laser eye (since it looks at my headliner) and moving it to the front of the car somewhere.
Otherwise its nice and clean looking, sitting above the mirror, invisible from the outside. its funny that this thread was brought up since i just had my windshield replaced and the guy pulled the wires out before I could check their locations. Its fixed now, but I drove around all weekend with my mirror darkened all the way during the middle of the day :p

I too have the Valentine One. I have mine mounted (via velcro) on my rear deck, antenna facing forward. The unit is covered by a third brake light cover that I purchased from the dealer. Very stealth, and no one ever even knows its there. I have tinted windows, with the back glass at 20%. Picks up radar with PLENTY of advanced warning, and also picks up laser just fine. My remote console is mounted on the front glass, tucked up into the farthest point of the top right corner of the glass. Invisible from outside the car, but perfectly in my peripheral vision when it goes off.
