Ok I have a 03 LS V8. This morning its 20 deg outside and they decide not to work. the light will come on and go right back off. Heater element? if so what the difference on the 03 replacement. Thanks

If it's anything like the 04's, the duct work may have disconnected and is sending mixed message to the comp. Pull the back off the seat and check to see if the 2 plastic tubes are disconnected. Mine did this and the heat or cool wouldn't work for more than about 30 seconds. I looked under the back of the seat and could pull the tubing down so I was confident that this was the problem. I pushed the 2 pieces together and duct taped them so they wouldn't pull apart. Believe it or not, this is what lincoln recommends in their repair manual!!

Likely it's a pretty common issue. The ductwork in the but cushion gets crushed stopping airflow. There is a TSB. Someone here E-mailed it to me. PM me a e-mail addy, and I'll try to forward it to you. The parts are about $30/seat.

i have an 02 and my drivers side heated seat gets half as warm as the pass. Any ideas????

LongIsland, you may want to start your own thread, since your seat is completely different than an 03, which is the topic here. Don't be a thread hijacker!

To the OP, this issue is very well known, and has been discussed here countless times. The same thing happened in my 2003 LS. The basic problem is that the ductwork inside the seat gets crushed and prevents flow of warm air to your arse. This, in turn, causes the system to overheat, and for the safety overrides to kick in. That's why the heaters go off shortly after you turn them on.

The fix for this is the subject of a Technical Service Bulletin at the dealer's. The basic fix is to take the seat apart, modify and replace the crushed ductwork and reassemble the seat. Also, if your car is out of warranty, get ready to shell out a few bucks to get this fixed.

Since we're on the topic of heated seats, do your guys' cars all have a different "motor" sound when you turn on the heated seats? I hear a noise, sounds kind of like a small water pump I guess.
When I first got the car, my sis was using the heated seats the first time I showed it to her, and I'm hearing this sound and freaking out...took a couple days to realize what it was.

There is a fan in the seat that blows heated or cooled air through the seat. Check your owners manual it discusses this and the filter and how to access the filter for replacement/cleaning.

Just a fan huh? It's so strange. The motor noise I'm talking about comes from different sides of the car, depending on which seat's heat is on, and it sounds like it's coming from behind the front firewall, but when I'm outside of the car I don't hear anything.

There is a dual blower under each front seat. The blower under each seat is independent, so the direction of the sound will change, depending on which speed each is running at.

So are the heated seats in everyone else's LS' quiet, or do you hear a motor running too?

Pretty much the loudest thing in the car (at idle). This is true of both of mine (04 and 06).
