I've searched the forum and the internet without meaningful results. Does anyone know the specs of the stock alpine system rear-deck amplifier in a 2002 LSE? Wattage, ohms, channels, etc? I'm looking to upgrade the rear deck "subwoofers" and would prefer to run them off of the factory amp if possible but I want a good speaker match (I'm too lazy at this point to try to run RCA cables from my AVIC-D3 to the rear deck - unless someone knows an easy way to run/hide cables professionally.)

Thanks for your help!

Any change off factory paper speakers is going to be an improvement. I don't think you will ever find factory specs to upgrade your factory "subwoofers." I would recommened just upgrading all your door speakers and throwing a sub in the trunk. Which is fairly easy to do, I just tapped off my rear "subwoofers" with an RCA cable lines, attached to amp and Viola'! Bumps in the trunk. Baller! BTW: Are you from Maple Grove, MN?

the hotness...so you just have an amp powered by the battery in the trunk and the sub is just tapped into the rear deck speakers. PM me with more details, i wanna add a little more bass without changing my factory alpine unit.

a way to run them professionally? yep. remove your center console, and run the cables under there, then under the short distance of carpet to under the back seat. from there, it's very easy to get them to your rear shelf. That's what I did for the rca's & remote wire for my sub/amp :D

Alright, another MN member! I'm up north in Grand Rapids.

It's in the works right now! Shoot member jk52781 a message... he's the one organizing it I think. He's from St. Paul IIRC.

That is correct! My JL amp has a remote sensing option so I didn't have to find a switched 12v source for it. Although the stock amp under the rear deck lid has a source for it, I didn't even bother.

I hacked the ends off an RCA cable stripped the wires bare, then removed the shielding off the wires that connect to the rear speakers. Soldered them up and wrapped them up good. Ran power and ground for the amp. Done deal :D Others have purchased an input isolater dohicky for this type of setup, but I didnt' think it was ultimately necessary. Because I could give a crap about the stock rear "subs", and any back emf distorting effects would never be heard of the power of two subs. A thought that just came to me would be nice, is to remove the rear factory "subs" and just have that as a pathway for the sound waves of your real subwoofers to traverse, because the trunk is pretty well insulated. By doing this you would increase cabin compartment road noise considerably. Just turn it up more. :D

I didn't want to abolish the factory Alpine unit either, and I like how well the stock setup works. If I do anything else it would be just to upgrade all the speakers and maybe do a swap for factory nav.. I think that would be enough to suit whatever audiophile needs I have.

Thanks for the response! And yes it is Maple Grove, MN...

Funny, as I grew up in Maple Grove. I went to Fernbrook Elem. the first year it opened. That place sure has grown! I was back there a few months ago. 4degrees ftw!

Alright so I decided on a pair of Infinity Kappa 682.9cf as the replacement for the rear deck speakers. Bought them online for $116.99 and picked up at Best Buy on the way home from work. Heading out to the garage now to begin the install.... Wish me luck! I will report the results as they come in...

First problem... (after finally figuring out how to remove the rear deck cover in the LS)... After pulling out the factory speakers, it seems that the rear deck speakers are actually 6x9s in this vehicle. I could have sworn that I read 5x7-6x8 was the correct size. On the way to Best Buy to exchange for 6x9s... Oh, and the price went up to $152.99... grr...

Poop! Good luck!

Should I mention that the rear speakers off the amp are filtered, so you won't get any highs out of it?

i would not get full range speakers because the amp is low pass only there are some companys that make 6x9 subs but they will defenitly need more power that amp that is back there is only like 50 watts RMS maybe 150 max the best option if you dont want to add a real sub box, is to moddify your stock enclosure. in my first ls before i put in 2 15" L7's , i took the stocks out and plugged one of the holes with 3/8 mdf 6x9 cut out and opened the other side out to accept an 8 inch L7 and found a new amp (rockford 300 watt RMS mono) that actualy fit in the stock location. i did have to run new power wire from the batt (i know, REAL FAR), ground it, and run a turn on wire since ford uses a 6 volt turn on and the aftermarket uses 12v, however there are low voltage relay that you can get to use the same turn on. and get some cheap rca's, cut them in half, and solder them on to the signal wires at the fact connector, the end result was incredable, everything looked stock and took up no trunk space. and it poundedloud and clean, if you have not heard an 8" L7 it hit as hard as some pair of 12's do. yes it is alot of work but the results pay off, and it only took a little over half a day to complete

Very nice, that is a good thought!

I think that your rating for your factory amp is a little high. I would speculate that it's only like 20 watts tops. I suppose if I was lazy I could easily test it and take it to the benchtop...

their are different standards for power ratings... that was just an educated guess based on the power wire awg and the fuse is rated at 20amp P=I x V, voltage(v) 12 x current(i) 20a max = 240 watts max and that dosent take into consideration that most amps are only 60% efficient. 240 x .6 =144 but like i said that was just a guess, i didnt design the amp

I straight suck at physics, cant wrap my mind around solving simultaneous equations. Just mecp advance certified installer w/ eight years in the bizz.
